I think babies are the best communicators. A baby knows how to grab your attention with a well-articulated cry. A baby knows how elicit an emotional response with just a smile. And as the months and years accumulate, babies become experts in verbal persuasion. It’s only when they grow up they lose their touch and need a bit of PR help.In my early working life, I always gravitated towards communications and marketing so it was only a matter of time before I would go back to uni and stick an academic label on my head. That was my Masters in Corporate Communications and Public Affairs. And it was there I met my best mate and mentor, Aristotle. My big takeaway from my studies – nothing has changed in comms in more than 2,000 years (despite what ‘gurus’ may tell you).Just to make sure no one was confused about my interests, I stuck another label on my head as a Chartered Public Relations Practitioner with the CIPR. To be honest, it’s a brilliant institute to be a part of as they help me with my CPD.My reward – I get to work in comms in the defence and energy sectors, plus in the military as an RAF Reservist. I love it!I also love life, so will always make time for sailing our 19ft Cornish Crabber, playing guitar, walking our dog, film making and riding my bike (and don’t tell anyone, but I also like to roller skate).
