Qualification Manager
CurrentWe are a Co-operative Community Interest Company ( AssurabilityCIC.co.uk ) providing rigorous and independent Quality Assurance to City & Guilds Centres. We work in partnerships and consortia with Schools, Colleges, Training Providers and one University. Working alongside National Companies and SME's (usually, but not always, other Social Enterprises or Charities) we offer courses from Entry level 2 to full level 3 (A-Level), We achieve this through working closely with Vocational Educators, Assessors and Practical Instructors on programmes and qualifications as diverse as The British Computer Society, Community Food Growing Organisations, Work-based Horticulture, Forest School, Environmental Studies, Woodland Management, Green Wood Trades, Groundsmanship, Employability and Enterprise Training and Candidate Projects at Foundation, Higher and Extended levels in computer programming and ICT.The company helps run a new centre 'Develop Biodiversity' on Dunstable Downs. This City & Guilds Training Centre practises Production Horticulture and will offset this by planting new woodland edge habitat to encourage ecosystems that will develop and grow over time. This will help increase both wildlife population (colony size) and biodiversity on The Downs. We are also Quality Assuring ITq and Computing Qualifications at Barnfield College in Luton.Assurability CIC continues to support work fighting food poverty. building local food resilience and increasing local food security, It takes independent and rigorous Qaulity Assurance seriously and supports the work of Public Concern at Work (PCaW) in exposing bad and unsafe practices particularly where these affect learners or apprentices and their progression or where assessment doesn't measure up to qualification standards.. Assurability CIC also supports The Gardeners Royal Benevolent Society (Perennial).
Alternative Provision (Education)
CurrentI still work with Alternative Providers across the Hertfordshire and am just starting programming and pseudocoding with learners from Hatfield and St Albans. I am also working on a Men's Shed as a Centre of Learning (NCFE) for Welwyn Garden City taking on small scale Internet of Things (IoT) electronics with Raspberry Pi at www.Pi-Base.webs.com (@pi_base),.largely through Family Learning. This may well spread to another location in North Hertfordshire in the very near future. I also administer the LinkedIn Teaching Computing (UEA) site.
Minetaste
CurrentMinetest is an infinite-world block sandbox game and a game engine, inspired by InfiniMiner, Minecraft http://www.minetest.net . The game now has extra learning potential through in game programming using 'Lua Command Blocks' or through 'modding' (modifying) the game directly or through specialised branching. All of which can count for recognised 'Game Development' qualifications (www.Pi-Base.webs.com
Founder And Ceo
CurrentI set up Watford Community Garden CIC to re-engage disaffected fourteen to sixteen year olds with a practical subject that would lead to a qualification recognised by UK employers. I created a City & Guilds Centre in partnership with The St John of God Horticultural Training Centre (Digswell Nurseries) and became Centre Manager and Internal Verifier (roles now called Quality Assurer). Peter Lowe built the business from no schools to sixteen schools (over a hundred and fifty learners) in three years. Unfortunately the Partnership Agreement was broken in October 2012 just after I left the company, through no fault of The St John of God Horticultural Training Centre, who continue to be an inspiring community-led charity, Watford Community Garden CIC has now ceased trading..I have restarted building our community garden using Social Enterprise money raised from Community Food Growing, Training and Education from Westfield Academy, Tolpits Lane, Watford WD14 6NS. Part of the Community Garden and Horticultural Training Centre lies inside the school and part in the community.
