Strategic Data is an open source IT company based in the Inner suburbs of Melbourne. They provide management expertise and software for the manipulation of complex data for government and private clients. Although a small company, they are well known in the global Perl community and have actively supported local open source conferences. I was approached by Strategic Data for my Corporate and financial experience.

This is a start up operation, but with very different aims and targets, which has its own capital, leadership, marketing offer, Board and business development team. It's other services are delivered under a service agreement, on an arms length basis, by the CBHS Group.

Big Sky Building Society formed in 2012 when the members of Big Sky Credit Union overwhelmingly voted in favor of a merger with Lifeplan Building Society, part of the Australian Unity Group.I am an Independent Non Executive Director with the organization following on from 12 years experience with Big Sky Credit Union and it's predecessors. I have retired from the Board in January in line with good Corporate Governance principles given my time on the Board.

I Joined the Board of the not for profit Australian Medic Alert Foundation. This foundation provides security and peace of mind to 250,000 Australians. I was Chair of the Governance and a Nominations committee, the IT sub committee and Deputy Chair

I was the Chairman of a joint venture financial planning company which hoped to grow to provide whole of life independent financial advice to members.We worked with Outlook to identify opportunities to better service credit union members with quality financial planning advice which was appropriate to their stage of life. We completed two significant acquisitions before folding the JV back into the main business.

I joined the Big Sky board as its Deputy Chair after its merger with BP Credit Union in 2000. I was part of the team that successfully monitored the delivery of the identified merger savings. During the past 10 years I have been the Chair of the Governance Committee, a member of the Executive Committee and a member of the Audit and Risk committee. Recently BIg Sky has merged to become part of the wider Australian Unity group.Big Sky has grown to have a turnover of @$30m with assets of over $600m. It has been a great journey to be part of this growth from BP Credit Union when there were three branches and some $70m of assets.

I was the interim leader of this business with a turnover of @$300m and 200 staff while it was on the market.I reported to the Board on business performance, monitored the senior team and staff as we went through the sale process, managed key vendors, had oversight of price and margin settings and managed the strategic options available during the sale process.Some of my major achievements during this time were to:- Double the sales tonnage and margins of the business in 2010 versus 2009 by working closely with our key customers and altering incentives.- Manage the Hi Fert data room and management presentations. I was appointed to the role three weeks before final bidders were due to complete their diligence processes on the business. There were over 1400 questions asked in a three week period, each of which I reviewed.- Raised the industry profile of Hi Fert. Through a targeted Marketing and PR campaign we generated over 50 positive rural press stories of Hi Fert through the innovative use of the internet and customer offers.- Reviewed fertiliser supply strategy. During the period I worked with the Supply area to review opportunities for the supply of Urea and AP's from new supply sources in Asia, the Middle East and North America. We presented this strategy to the Board and saved Hi Fert several million dollars by moving to contract versus spot rates.

The Fertiliser Industry Federation of Australia represents the interests of the industry in Canberra. This includes managing the industry program Fertcare which seeks to increase the training and standards of fertiliser producers, importers, wholesalers, buyers and spreading companies. With increased regulation at a state and federal level the association also assisted by providing a one touch way for Governments to get industry feedback. The association also manages common industry requirements including managing import and quarantine regulations.

I held general management responsibility for a range of areas including IT, HR, Government and Public Affairs, Company Secretarial, Purchasing, Sustainability, R&D. I was also responsible for the Credit area for two and a half years until this area was transitioned to the Finance team. I had on average five direct reports during this period and was responsible for a total budget in excess of A$8m.I also had the opportunity to be Acting CEO several times during this period including for two months when the permanent CEO completed an Executive MBA in the USA. My major achievements were:- Leading the revamp of the Commercial team when I started in the role. I rationalised existing staff with logical areas outside the Commercial team and I recruited new staff into the team. These changes resulted in a clear purpose for the area and saved the business @$0.4m per annum.- Worked with the Sales team to harmonise Credit limits. When fertilizer prices doubled in 2007, we needed to review the ability of customers to be able to manage increased limits. Through proactive visits and open discussion wih Sales representatives, we were able to manage the transition with the full support of the Board.

- Managed all inbound contact groups for BP / Castrol- Managed outbound sales teams with @$500m revenue, 10,000 customers

Prepared the fuels Marketing plan, managed the introduction of ethanol added fuel, Grew the carbon offset program and contributed to the BP fuels advertising campaign on television

Represented BPCU as Chairman and successfully merged into BHPCU
