Twelve years direct patient care experience as an Emergency Nurse Practitioner, assessing and treating primarily CTAS 2-5 level patients of all ages in a collaborative family/patient centered model of care.Daily follow up on departmental diagnostic investigations (microbiology, chemistry and radiological) with results call back and coordination with pharmacies and Primary Health Care Physicians (PHCPs) in the community with patients after discharge or alternatively after admission. Mentor and clinical resource for new RN, NP and Medical students and new and returning nursing staff. Coordinate with Community Care Access Centers (CCAC) with wound management and first intravenous dosing of antibiotics for bacterial infections for outpatient management. Coordinate transitions of anti-coagulation therapy between ED and PHCPs; from initial investigation, diagnostic confirmation and bridging to therapeutic anti coagulation of acute and recurrent Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) and Pulmonary Embolism (PE) management. Coordinate with GEM nurses with respect to home safety and discharge planning of elderly patients as well as transition to respite, nursing and hospice care.Clinical practice expertise not limited to clinical assessment, treatment and management of emergent and primary care related concerns of all ages presenting to an urban emergency department. Examples include: Vaginal Bleeding in Pregnant and Non Pregnant patients, Respiratory and Urological concerns in adults in children, Neurological injury associated with vertigo, concussion and trauma, extremity injuries (lacerations, burns, sprains, dislocations, fractures) Abdominal (cholecystitis/ biliary and renal colic, gastroentroenteric infections, appendicitis, foreign body removal (various sites), wound care and abscess incision and drainage.
