EPA is focused on providing better support to communities, especially in environmentally overburdened, underserved, and economically distressed areas where the needs are greatest.We are coordinating technical assistance and other resources across EPA programs; with states, tribes, and local governments; and with other federal agencies to support communities as they pursue environmental improvements that enhance economic opportunity and quality of life.While we will continue to work in thousands of communities, we have identified more than 50 communities where we will focus action in the next two years. This work will be informed by a dialogue on the environmental and public health issues that matter most to these communities. Lessons learned through this work will be used to improve the support we provide to all communities in the future.

Develop and support the implementation of targeted strategies for clean energy and a green economy that incorporates both core programmatic work with opportunities to support new administration priorities around clean energy, climate, green economy, and sustainability. Advisor to the Region’s executives on clean energy and green economy topics, identifying existing, emergent, and projected issues and trends as they relate to clean energy and green economy policies, procedures, performance, and decisions. Seek opportunities to collaborate with external entities on initiatives to encourage environmentally sound clean energy and green economy policies and programs and serves as the Region’s senior liaison on clean energy and green economy issues to the Department of Energy (DOE) and other Federal, State, Tribal, Local agencies, academia, and public and private groups.

Through an Intergovernmental Personnel Act Assigment between EPA and the NPCC/Portland State Hatfield School of Government Peter convened public/private partnerships using collaborative governance processes with a focus on clean energy and sustainability.
