This new project commenced in January 2016 after IJM Cambodia's success in working for more than a decade to address the commercial sexual exploitation of children.My role includes:- Setting vision and strategic direction for this new field of work for IJM Cambodia- Leading IJM Cambodia as Field Office Director, I report to the Vice President of Regional Operations for South East Asia, who is based at IJM HQ in Washington, D.C.- Leadership on all significant IJM operations and interventions to assist victims in need of rescue- Oversight of comprehensive capacity-building programmes for Cambodian law enforcement and other agencies- Oversight of monitoring and evaluation of IJM's programme delivery and the Cambodian government's response to labour trafficking- Collaborating with civil society and government stakeholders at central and provincial levels- Working with key government officials in Cambodia and the region to set direction and develop strategies to address labour trafficking (both domestic and cross-border)- Designing and implementing new casework process and protocols, leading the legal analysis and review of all potential labour trafficking referrals- Oversight and management of around 30 Cambodian staff and 4-5 expatriate volunteers- Pastoral care, staff well-being and security- Quarterly reporting to granting agencies and IJM HQ- Budget planning and resource allocation
Field Office Director, Bangalore
Leading IJM Bangalore to combat bonded labour/labour trafficking in collaboration with local authorities. My role included:- Leading IJM Bangalore as Field Office Director, I reported to the Vice President of Regional Operations for South Asia, who is based at IJM HQ in Washington, D.C.- I was responsible for approximately 45 local staff and 10 expatriate volunteers- The project was multi-faceted, including casework operations (rescue and aftercare of victims, prosecution of offenders), capacity-building efforts and community advocacy- During my tenure IJM Bangalore rescued approximately 1300 bonded labourers and developed a strong working relationship with a new Anti-Human Trafficking police taskforce, leading to an increase in arrests and incarcerations in bonded labour cases- We also developed and implemented a ground-breaking prevalence study to measure the incidence of bonded labour in the Bangalore region, successfully implementing a scientifically valid research methodology among a hidden population. - In this leadership role I contributed to a nationwide plan of action with the four other IJM office leaders in India, and represented IJM within national campaign coalitions and strategic alliances- As Field Office Director I was responsible for overall leadership and management of the office, including visioning, strategic planning,pastoral care, staff well-being and security, reporting, and budget planning.
