About Petru Venter

In 2005 I've started my career at L'Avenir Wine Estate, Stellenbosch, owned by the Laroche Family and recently acquired by the Advini Group. The opportunity to discover and explore wines from Bordeaux, Chile, Chablis, Champagne, and of course South Africa, brought the excitement to always be part of an international wine company. My decision joining Gilbert & Gaillard in 2018, opening offices in Stellenbosch, allowed me to promote and advocate SA wines in export markets. Being involved in business development, strategic management, working with like-minded people, are my motivation. Awarding top quality wines from SA through continuous commitment and dedication to grow export markets is my passion.Eager to connect, share insights, and explore collaborations.     Established and managed the Laroche brand in South Africa through executing the National Marketing and Sales Plan for the L’Avenir range of wines. Responsible for importing the range of Laroche wines from Chile, Chablis and the South of France. Handled all exports of the L’Avenir premium range of wines. Joint responsibility, with owner Michel Laroche, for the design of the new L’Avenir logo to be consistent with the international Laroche brand. Handled all PR, advertising and media communications in South Africa.Strategic responsibility for implementing the marketing plan based on forecasted sales, budgets, market development and product development. Increased wines sales for the period July 2005 – June 2006 by 18% and by 25% for the period until May 2008. Managed and mentored 8 staff covering areas including the tasting room, distribution, exports, events and the function venue and guest house. Project managed and supervised the 12-bedroom guest house during a 12 month renovation period. Worked closely on a daily basis with entire construction team and landscapers. Opened, according to plan, with a 4* Tourism grading after completion.Increased the occupancy rate for the guest house by 20% during peak times due to efficient execution of the marketing strategy. Attended wine shows and local seminars as well as organised all marketing events and trade shows representing the L’Avenir and Laroche brand. Arranged itineraries for overseas journalists, media and Laroche guests. Visited VINEXPO twice with the Laroche Group. Travelled extensively in France, Scandinavia, The Netherlands, Great Britain, Canada and USA.
