I am currently self-employed, working as a freelance writer and voice over artist; seeking work in public media (in the areas of News and Programming Production and Fundraising), the arts, or non-profit groups. I am a proven radio producer and announcer, currently volunteering as a Jazz host for KUVO, Denver. (pfsimon444@gmail.com) In 2017 I concluded a 19-year stint with the Department of Energy’s Golden Field Office for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, where I served as a Contracting Officer and Grants Management Specialist. My work with D.O.E. kept me up-to-date with Federal grant regulations. I developed a detailed understanding of the grant writing process. Through previous work in public radio, I prepared a successful Department of Commerce PTFP grant for transmitter equipment for KCSU-FM, Fort Collins (1989), and wrote the narrative section of a successful PTFP grant for KVNF-FM, Paonia, Colorado in 1997 to build an associate station in Montrose. My 20 years of experience in public radio includes a life-long passion for investigative journalism, intelligent music and discussion programming. During those years I wore many hats, as Station Manager, Program Director, and News/ Production Director. I reported on a variety of topics from stations in Philadelphia, Fort Collins and Grand Junction/ Colorado Public Radio, earning awards from the Associated Press for feature productions. Topics included Philadelphia City Council "Abscam" corruption and environmental issues, such as "right to know" legislation. In Colorado, I produced award-winning feature reports on construction of Interstate 70 through delicate rock formations in Glenwood Canyon, public land grazing management; the challenges of rural health care; linking rural schools to the internet, and rural electrification politics.
