About Philippe Richard

Philippe Richard is director (CEO) of the Federal Institute of Metrology METAS.A graduate in physics and Ph.D. from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (EPFL) in Lausanne, Richard spent 27 years of his working life at METAS. He contributed to 40 scientific papers (31 directly in the area of metrology) including specific activities for the swiss watt (Kibble) balance experiment for the redefinition of the kilogram. He was the President of the Consultative Committee on Mass and Related Quantities (CCM), Organization of the Metre Convention (International Bureau of Weights and Measures BIPM) between 2012 and 2023. He was the Swiss CIML (International Committee of Legal Metrology) member between 2007 and 2015. He is a member of the International Committee of Weights and Measures (CIPM) since 2015. He is also the chair of the Audit (Finance) Committee and of the Governance Committee of the CIPM. He is Vice-President of the CIPM since 2023.
