Here at SSSC, health care providers have cases from surgical procedures to pain care management procedures. Surgical procedures includes: Arthroscopies, Stimulator Generator Replacements and Loop Recorder Implants. Pain care management procedures includes: Lumbar/Cervical Transforaminal Epidural Steroid Injections, Sacroiliac Joint Injections, Medial Branch Blocks, Radiofrequency Ablations, and Spinal Cord Stimulator Trials.As a medical assistant, I room patients, perform vital checks and inquire patient information such as their height, weight and allergies. I also perform Point-Of-Care Tests per physician's order and quality checks to ensure all equipment is in working order. My other tasks includes, wiping down and turning over pre-op, PACU and OR rooms, auditing and verifying completion of patient’s charts and paperwork, calling patients about their upcoming appointments and ensuring patient safety throughout their outpatient procedure. My duties as front desk is checking in/checking out patients, scanning paperwork into Liquid EMR, prepping consent forms, organizing paperwork for cases in advance, managing the phone and fax machine and print out forms needed by the physician/surgeon.

A short externship to improve and practice my phlebotomy skills.During my time at BAMA I performed venipunctures on other students using straight needles, butterflies and syringes. I was able to successfully collect samples from the arms and hands. I also practiced collecting patient information and how to properly collect and dispose of used equipment.There were times where I was able to display my phlebotomy knowledge and assist teach new phlebotomists alongside the instructor.

A 180hr externship with Dr. Jothi Murali to gain knowledge and experience about being a medical assistant.Responsibilities I prepared the exam room, roomed patients and performed vitals checks. I also performed administrative duties using the phone, fax, email and EHR system. I scheduled and reminded patients of upcoming appointments and also sent out requests for MRIs and X-rays.
