New Forum is the creative writing journal at the University of California, Irvine. During the academic year, the publication reviews and selects up to 25 works of poetry, fiction, and creative non-fiction for campus-wide publication. Over 300 issues are distributed every year. As of 2012, New Forum has representation in the Anteater Involvement Fair.As an Editor-in-Chief, I am responsible for developing, formatting, and publishing three issues in Fall, Winter, and Spring of the academic year. I lead quarterly meetings to determine our future submission deadlines, literature for the quarter's issue, and revisions for their makers. After publication, I host an issue release party featuring our published authors and poets who read their work and answer questions from the audience. In November 2012, New Forum received its largest volume of submissions in year-to-date history.

UTeach is a program where select UCI instructors propose, develop and teach their own seminar classes. As an instructor, I developed and taught my own course topic, lesson plan, and course syllabus. Throughout the year, instructors learn about and implement the process of academic revision and methods for effective leadership. In Spring quarter, I enrolled and taught my course on creative writing to an undergraduate students.

Literature Instructor
Humanities Out There (HOT) is an outreach program that extends its tutoring services to high school literature courses. Since 1997, it has drawn together public school teachers, graduate students, and undergraduate tutors in the shared enterprise of bringing innovative scholarship through age-appropriate curricula. It is a collaborative enterprise between UCI’s School of Humanities and Orange County schools with support from UCI’s Center for Educational Partnerships.As an undergraduate tutor and mentor, I have brought my university education to public school classrooms. Twice a week, I advise a group of 4 high school students in American literature and philosophy. Tutoring consisted of applying the practice of close-reading to advanced texts while helping them develop familiarity with figurative language.
