Providing independent expert environmental support since 2010, Pelagica has worked on eight offshore wind farm projects plus numerous other environmental permit and consent applications for a further 38 projects. Specialising in undertaking assessments on the potential impacts to birds and marine mammals from offshore wind farm developments.Pelagica has undertaken over 60 Habitats Regulations Assessments (HRA), including assessments for 21 offshore wind farm projects and three Review of Consents HRAs for competent authorities Having formerly been a Regulator involved in the consenting of offshore wind farm projects I fully understand what is required in order to deliver an application and I continue to work closely with Regulators providing advice and support.

Between 2001 and 2010 worked for the former Department of Energy and Climate Change (now BEIS) as Senior Environmental Manager. A major function of the role was the review and determination of environmental submissions, e.g. EIAs submitted by the offshore wind and oil and gas companies From 2004 to 2010 I was significantly involved in all the offshore wind farm projects in the UK undertook all the Appropriate Assessments for the offshore wind farms consented in the UK during this period.Provided advice and support on the development of domestic legislation, international agreements and agreed codes of practice in line with the Department’s policies for both the offshore oil and gas and renewable energy industries.The position within the Department required close and effective liaison with a broad range of stakeholders including international bodies (e.g. European Commission, OSPAR), other government departments, statutory consultees, non-government organisations and other interested parties. Being able to positively influence policy development and regulatory initiatives through effective dialogue was essential.

Worked for four years as an environmental consultant for the oil and gas industry, undertaking Environmental Impact Assessments and preparing Environmental Statements. Clients included Shell, BP, Exxon Mobil and BHP and although most projects were for North Sea projects some work was undertaken in Nigeria.

Four years with the Joint Nature Conservation Committee (JNCC) undertaking seabird and cetacean surveys in waters west of Shetland, between Shetland and the Faroes, preparing and analysing data and report writing. The surveys were undertaken to help inform government of the marine sensitivities in an area of UK waters with interest from oil and gas industry.
