The Private Equity Advisory Committee (PEAC) advises the Executive on the strategy and execution of the PRI private equity (PE) work stream. The PE work stream was launched in 2008 with a handful of General Partners (GPs) and Fund of Funds and today is one of the PRI’s most mature with over 450 specialised private equity managers and more than 250 Limited Partners (LPs) as PRI signatories. The work stream is at the forefront of exploring the possibilities of ESG integration within PE investing, working with other industry associations to deliver widespread impact. The PEAC is composed of signatories that are demonstrating leadership in the implementation of the Six Principles in PE investing. Through this collaboration and expertise-sharing, the work stream can achieve maximum impact in alignment with the overarching strategy of the PRI.

Specialist internal resource responsible for overseeing and co-ordinating the assessment and management of ESG issues across Carlyle’s investment process, for due diligence, ownership and exit for private equity, real assets and global credit in EMEA. This work has included:o working with deal teams on the assessment of ESG risks and identification of value creation opportunities during due diligence;o responsible for developing and advancing ESG and Impact strategies and action plans, including ESG related key performance indicators for up 80 portfolio companies in the European, Sub-Saharan Africa and International Energy buy-out funds;o meeting with LPs to discuss Carlyle’s ESG due diligence process and on-going ESG and Impact related activities with portfolio companies;o supporting the development of content for both Carlyle’s Corporate Sustainability report and fund level ESG reports, applying reporting standards such as the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), Sustainability Accounting Standard Boards (SASB) and the Task Force on Climate Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD);o spokesperson for Carlyle at both internal and external events on ESG, sustainability and responsible investment.

Experienced environmental, social and governance (ESG) specialist in PwC’s Sustainability and Climate Change (S&CC) team. ESG related services include:o ESG Due Diligence & Portfolio Reviews – Central role in conducting and developing PwC’s ESG due diligence and portfolio review service offerings to private equity (PE) clients . This has included the identification of ESG related opportunities and validation of potential ESG value through cost benefit analysis, across a broad range of sectors.o Policies – Worked with banks and PE clients on the development of responsible investment policies. Currently working with the Bank of Ghana and the Association of Bankers in Ghana to develop sustainable banking principles, which is a countrywide sustainable banking initiative. o Investment Procedures – Developed ESG investment procedures and online platforms to banks and PE clients . These tools allow investment professionals to access information on the financial institutions ESG policies, ESG procedures and ESG related sector risks. This has also included the development of Excel-based toolkits to assist investment teams to screen for Environmental and Social (E&S) risks. o Training & Capacity Building – E&S Risk Management training to banks in Eastern Europe, Central Asia and Africa on behalf of development and corporate banks. Visits have included interviews with Senior Managers of the local bank, often the CEO or CFO to understand how the bank is complying with E&S risk management procedures.ESIA Reviews – Conducted independent environmental and social impact assessment reviews on project related corporate loans (e.g. Railway line in Ethiopia and paper and pulp mill in Australia) against internationally recognised standards such as the IFC Performance Standards and OECD Common Approaches on behalf of Equator Principles banks.

Environmental Consultant and Project Manager, specialising in HSE due diligence in the oil & gas, mining and industrial manufacturing sectors. Previous due diligence project experience involved the application of International Accounting Standards in the identification of environmental and technical liabilities and providing continuing support to clients including assisting in SPA negotiations and the development of pricing models for financial institutions such as Credit Suisse, JP Morgan, Morgan Stanley and UBS.Twelve months at the Isle of Grain in Kent supporting the development of National Grid’s LNG and high pressure gas infrastructure during the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and as a Site manager for a small team of environmental monitors, providing contaminated land watching brief for the construction of two high pressure gas pipelines. Other experience and skills include involvement in major Geo-technical Site Investigations, Phase I and II Contaminated Land Projects, Phase I & II Geo-environmental Site Assessments, Asbestos Surveys and Remediation Projects.
