Responsible for Strategic Management of Faculty of Business, Enterprise and Life Long Learning.During period number of full time equivalent students increased from 1200 to 2000. Launched DBA, DProf and strengthened PhD programme which saw an increase in the number of doctoral students to over 40. Managed the overhaul of u/g programmes and p/g syllabuses. Also stimulated development of post graduate courses such as Chester work based Masters in Business. Appointed 4 new professorships, gained sponsorship from MBNA for Chair in Financial Services and restructured Faculty into University of Chester Business School. Developed Chester Forum as annual regional think tank for business, launched Westminster Lecture series on Public Affairs and founded and developed with Danny Moss the International Centre for Corporate and Public Affairs. As Dean initiated the first Research Excellence Framework submission by the School in 2013. Strengthened School with Visiting Professor Appointments from Harvard, Leicester, Oxford, Maine, Manchester, Twente (Netherlands), China and Germany. Developed and strengthened the University Business Advisory Council with board level appointments from Airbus, Bank of America, Countess of Chester Hospital, Chester Zoo, EA Technology, Grosvenor, RBS, Toyota, URENCO and a range of small businesses, public sector bodies and charities. Developed the High Sheriff of Cheshire Enterprise Awards to be one of the major independent business awards in the UK with major regional sponsorship and initiated awards for CSR, Exports, Innovation and Family Business. Department of Marketing, University of Otago, Head of Department, 2005 to 2007.Chair of the team which saw the Department of Marketing increase its PBRF research ratings by almost 50% since the previous exercise in 2003. In addition mentored Tourism Department staff through the exercise, they obtained the highest rating in this subject area in New Zealand. This played an integral part in Otago becoming the top ranked research university in New Zealand in April 2007. Managed and mentored a staff of approximately 30 with a budget in excess of NZ$3.5 and modernized many of the systems and processes which has enabled the Department to grow research and focus teaching on high quality delivery and stimulus of students. Led a number of curricula developments at post graduate and under graduate level to grow the income of the Department and School. In addition played a major role as a member of the Dean’s Advisory Group in advising on the strategic direction and development of plans for the School and associated Departments. The Marketing Council was established by UK business in 1996 to foster and promote the use of world class marketing practice across UK business to aid competitiveness. It was funded by the UK Advertising Association and Direct Marketing Association and leading UK based companies. It carried out a quality promotion campaign within schools and government and produced a case study series of best practice for use by business schools internationally. It’s task complete, I was given the role of chairman of distributing its residual funds via a Research Grant Competition and funds totaling £30,000 were given to the UK Parliamentary Trust and Schools Marketing Education Campaign.

Wonderful first job working as office boy in Radio Luxemburg (208) based in Hertford Street, Mayfair looking after station disk jockeys at the time of the ending of pirate radio and start of Radio One.
