So the question is - how did I transition from Bookkeeping to Business Development. The truth is, if you're doing it right, there is a element of sales in every relationship with a customer whether it's bookkeeping, customer service, or even product delivery.As a bookkeeper, I developed a rapport with with our clients when they made inquiries about invoices, asked about pricing or just had general questions about the company. At one level, I was their go to after their sales person. This unique position allowed me to introduce them to any new initiatives the company was rolling out, sort of in a pre-sales role, but still asking qualifying questions, getting a sense of who the decision maker would be and passing that information on to sales.So, if done right, any regular contact with clients has the potential to turn into an opportunity, if not directly as a sale, at least an information gathering opportunity to assist the sales group.Bookkeeping included.
