Identified critical projects to pilot the rollout, coordinated an Architectural Review Session with Microsoft, built training plans, and worked to bring in consultant resources to ensure the success of the project. The BizTalk implementation will reduce the custom code Jackson Hewitt maintains, increase scalability of the messaging platform, and provide additional business agility.• Coordinated the upgrade of SQL Server 2000 systems to SQL Server 2008 R2. This included using Microsoft to perform a Risk Assessment Program engagement to identify issues with existing SQL Server 2000 and SQL Server 2005 systems, reassessing the underlying clustering strategy, coordinate training on SQL 2008, and performing a Microsoft Architectural Design Session on the SQL 2008 transition. This upgrade will improve overall system performance and stability of the core OLTP systems.• Built a 3 year technology road map to align with the 3 year business strategic plan. The road map identifies when new technologies will be introduce, older technologies will be phased out, and when new business capabilities will be added through enabling technologies.• Proactively managed Jackson Hewitt’s Premier Support account with Microsoft to ensure that maximum value was provided. This included establishing the agreement scope, ensuring the optimal mix between proactive and reactive services was delivered, and working with internal groups to coordinate service. With a budget of $4.3M, and a team of technical and tax developers consisting of 33 total members and 22 off-shore resources, provided broad oversight for building and maintaining all software developed at Jackson Hewitt, including the core tax and business management applications which enable an annual revenue stream of $278.5 million. • Worked on team that envisioned, developed, and launched Jackson Hewitt’s first online tax product, JacksonHewittOnline.com, within an 8 month period from concept to launch. This project included the creation of customized sites for strategic partners including Wal-Mart and Home Depot.• Oversaw Jackson Hewitt’s multi-year migration to the IRS Modernized eFile platform utilizing XML and SOAP technologies, which decreases the time of IRS acknowledgement from 2-6 hours to 5-10 minutes, enabling a significantly enhanced customer experience.• Increased capitalized labor by 32% by moving maintenance to lower cost off-shore resources, working closely with Product Managers to ensure the availability of capital projects year round, and assisting the Comptroller to rework Jackson Hewitt’s policies to capitalize all tasks of the software development phase as specified in AcSEC SOP 98-1.• Expanded relationship with Datamatics to provide an additional 19 off-shore Tax Development resources, allowing the Tax Development team to increase capacity for capitalized project work by 13%.

Through partnerships with Datamatics and Data Core, added 17 resources to the team while reducing the need for additional Jackson Hewitt Quality Control on-shore team members due to smaller team sizes.• Utilized the IBM Performance Testing practice to create a reusable load testing platform that performed end to end load tests on disaster recovery and production sites. Several major issues were proactively identified and addressed before tax season.• Created a Test Engineering group to perform load testing, code analysis, test automation, and other proactive steps to improve the quality of software deliverables, including significantly enhancing the tax regression tool Test Central which ran over 8,000 tax returns nightly.
