  • Greenshires Group
    Development & Print Production Manager
    Greenshires Group Aug 1998 - Nov 2005
    Leicester, United Kingdom
After being head hunted by the Greenshires group. My remit was simple and made clear from the off "Turn it around or we shut it down" and that was never a challenge I was going to turn down. My task was turning a well established but struggling screen print company that was part of a group acquisition into a profitable and viable sector within the group. The group consisted of three companies with the screen print department being viewed as the weakest link in the group even with bluechip clients such as HSBC. When joining the company it was clear that there had been very little investment in the way of machinery or skills for a long time. I started by bringing new skills to the existing staff as well as introducing lots of new machinery ranging from fully automated print lines to digital flatbed printers. The screen print department soon became the strongest of the three departments and has remained so to this day where it is now one of our main suppliers and well known in the print industry
  • Cem Press Limited
    Print Manager
Cem Press Limited Sep 1996 - Aug 1998
    Nottingham
The challenge at CEM press was to create an in-house print department into a book binding company that was struggling to keep up with the growing business via outside suppliers. The job entailed sourcing all elements of machinery to facilitate a screen print set up including semi auto print machine, screen exposure units and all ancillaries that are needed. Once set up, the next phase was to educate and train the existing staff that had no print experience to operate and work in the department so they are able to keep all work in-house from then on. This task was achieved within an 18 months period and is still operating today. I was asked to stay on but the mission was completed and new challenges awaited elsewhere.
  • Allprint Nottingham Ltd
    Managing Director
Allprint Nottingham Ltd Jun 1986 - Sep 1996
    Nottingham
After joining a small Nottingham based print company as an artwork and camera operator. I worked my way to factory manager and subsequently Managing Director in just over 2 years. The progression was swift and the challenges great as this was a well established business with the majority of the employees much older than myself. Under my control, the company grew beyond all expectations and a new factory was needed. Once space was not a limiting factor, the company expanded to become one of the largest print companies in the midlands at that time and is still operating today.
  • Sportprint Nottingham
    Screen Printer & Artworker
    Sportprint Nottingham Jul 1983 - Jun 1986
    Nottingham
Fresh from school and with a world to conquer I set off on my journey. I was one of two guy's that joined the small family business on the same day. The company only had three employees all of which were joint owners at the time. Our tasks were varied and covered everything from creating original artwork to making screens and then printing the finished garment. We promptly became very proficient in all aspects of the business and managed to grow it to a point where new premises were needed to cope with the expansion. In a short time Sportprint became a big name in the T-shirt and garment printing trade and was one of the first companies in the UK to have automated multi coloured print machines. Within 2 years the company employed over 20 people and was producing work for Disney and C&A
