Recruited to build out the Data team (Data Engineering, Analytics, Data Governance) and define the data strategy and roadmap at a rapidly growing software company. Grew the team from a single person to a team of nine in six months.Enhanced the fledgling Snowflake data platform by rolling out dbt, and both fixing the data model and automating deployment. Selected and rolled out a company-wide (200+ employees) BI solution, Sigma. Designed and built a real-time analytics/reporting solution, based on Rockset, integrated into the customer platform, replacing a poorly-designed and badly-scaling prior solution.Bolstered governance programs throughout the organization, by hiring a Data Governance Manager and addressing gaps in HIPAA, PCI and CCPA/GDPR policies. Implemented Atlan data catalog and Monte Carlo data observability tools to help with this effort.Designed and successfully tested a DMS / S3 / Snowpipe replacement for Fivetran, saving 90% on costs for Postgres CDC replication to Snowflake, in the process improving refresh times and making the pipeline resilient to upstream data model changes.

A Cloud Guru was acquired by Pluralsight in July 2021, a successful $billion+ exit for the company.Recruited to define the company data strategy, lead the build-out of a new Data Engineering department, and implement a new data platform from scratch (Snowflake on AWS, dbt Cloud, StitchData, Looker, Segment), replacing the existing Redshift environment.Strong focus on code-driven automation, data quality, and governance, including GDPR and CCPA requirements. Incorporating adoption of domain-driven/shift-left data philosophies (such as Data Mesh), Lambda architecture (S3 batch load and Kafka/Kinesis streaming loads) and treating the platform more as a living, operational data environment, rather than a once-nightly-updated static store.Integration of platform with multiple third-party sources, such as Salesforce, Marketo, Chargebee, Jira and Zendesk, as well as internal sources from DynamoDB, PostgreSQL, MySQL and S3, and ad data from social sources such as Google, MS/Bing, Facebook and Reddit.Evaluation of SaaS toolsets for Enterprise Data Catalog (Atlan, data.world, Alation), Reverse ETL (Hightouch, Census, Rudderstack), DSAR management (Transcend) and data quality / observability (Monte Carlo), and implementation of selected products to produce a full-featured data platform capable of scaling with ACG's data needs for years to come.

Spiceworks was successfully acquired by J2 Global / Ziff Davis in August 2019.Designed the platform architecture, and guided the engineering build teams, in the construction of Spiceworks' new data-monetization platform. Brought all of the disparate data together in Snowflake, putting them in a strong position to leverage their unique knowledge of IT Pros to provide both them and the vendor customers with meaningful tools and targeted data to enhance their daily work needs.This is a full-scale replacement of the organically-grown legacy solutions, including the build-out of new ELT orchestrations of both internal and external sources; data lake, conforming data layer and individual data mart components of the warehouse; and a company-wide BI, reporting and self-service platform. Snowflake with Matillion, FiveTran and Tableau.
