VCU Health’s mission is to preserve and restore health for all people of Virginia and beyond through innovation in service, research, and education.The Platform System Services department is responsible for architecting, implementing, and maintaining VCU Health’s information technology infrastructure in an effort to support that mission. As a Sr. Platform Services Engineer my primary focus is optimizing VCU Health’s virtualization stack. Working to make sure that it is getting the most out of its current technology investments while also looking to identify emerging technologies that could help position VCU Health for success in meeting its mission in the future. This is accomplished by utilizing all tools available to monitor resource utilization and performance metrics. Which allows me to proactively address and resolve any issues that could potentially lead to degraded application performance resulting in poor end-user experience. I am also continuously reviewing internal processes to identify tasks that can be automated using scripting tools or automation platforms. This allows the team to be more efficient and consistent regardless of who is completing the task.

As a Sr. Systems Integration Architect I collaborated with product teams to design Hand-on-Lab environments accessed by select customers. These customers would gain access to VMware products that were still being developed which allowed the customers to provide direct feedback to the VMware product managers and product developers prior to the products release. As a Systems Integration Architect and a member of the Integration Engineering team, I was responsible for supporting IE’s Customer [0] private cloud. The team’s charter was to run the pre-GA versions of VMware's core products as a customer on a cloud that was completely disconnected from the corporate network. The infrastructure was spread across three colocation facilities, two in North America and one in Europe. The Hands-on-Labs events at VMworld 2012 in San Francisco and Barcelona Spain ran on the Customer[0] cloud along with the on-site and hosted beta events.
