I'm a father to a 6 yr old girl who is a pediatric cancer survivor. She was diagnosed with a rare eye cancer at age 2. After fighting cancer (twice) for 3 years my wife and I and a small committee decided to give back. We organized Callyn's Course For Hope, a golf tournament, to help raise awareness and funds for pediatric cancer research. The problem is we never had organzied a golf tournament before, we had only played in them. A friend of ours is an executive at Clarcor, now Parker Hannifin, and pledged to be our initial title sponsor. He said "I want you to work closely with Phil, he will handle everything." Phil immediately welcomed us with open arms, organinzing a meeting between our family and his work family complete with gifts for both of my girls. We told their team "our story" and instantly they were "all in." Phil helped pick team captains internally within the company to raise additional funds and help get everyone onboard. He organized volunteers to help staff our event complete with a tent, social media mentions, and an army of helpers to make our first year event a huge success where we raised over $51,000. Phil is a photographer "on the side" and donated an awesome framed print from his personal collection for our silent auction. I almost kept it for my own home, he does amazing work behind the lens. The great thing about life is sometimes you have the pleasure of crossing paths with people who give more, go above and beyond, and are true servant leaders. Phil Bonk is one of those people. A truly kind gentleman that treated everyone with kindness from a 5/6 year old to everyone associated with our event.
