Consultant on value creation and diligence / analysis related to current and new investments in software businesses

I oversee the core finance functions, including Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A), accounting, treasury, and tax. I play a key role in making investment decisions (typically minority investments in strategic partners in our ecosystem) and M&A. As part of the company's Executive Leadership Team, I serve on various subcommittees, including the Organization and Operations subcommittee and the risk committee. I serve as a Board Observer for one of our strategic investments focused on digital collectibles and non-fungible tokens (NFTs). Uniquely for a CFO, I also oversee an exploratory product development effort focused on building next generation finance, accounting, tax and treasury tools.

Afiniti is an enterprise AI software company focused on optimizing contact center performance. Its core product enables the real-time, optimized pairing of contact center agents with customers in large contact centers to increase revenue and reduce costs.I managed a broad range of functions, including corporate development, investor relations, accounting, tax, FP&A, procurement / vendor management, IT support, and administration. I played a significant role in all major initiatives in the company, including significant client deal negotiations, partnerships, and international expansion / product portfolio decisions. Afiniti did not have a Chief Operating Officer (COO) and during much of my tenure, I played elements of that role as well. I served on the company risk committee, which focused on reducing information security risk, and risk related to numerous related issues, including data privacy, GDPR, etc. The company has operations all over the world, including the United States, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, China, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Australia, Pakistan, Singapore, United Kingdom, Spain, France, and Italy. It also sells to a number of sectors, including telecommunications (wireless and wireline), cable, banking, insurance, healthcare, and travel and leisure.Accomplishments included:- Raising over $500 million of capital through several rounds (both equity and debt). The company is a VC-backed and PE-backed Series E company with an enterprise software (B2B) product.- Establishing world-class controls and scalable financial/operational processes while the company grew by ~20x and entered over 10 new countries- Scaling a team from 5 to 60+ employees (including functions outside of core finance and accounting)- Overseeing numerous PCAOB-compliant Big 4 audits (public company standards)- Driving numerous negotiations with vendors and clients, resulting in $100+ million in annual incremental revenue and reduced costs

Led teams within the Investment Banking Division to provide corporate finance and capital structure advice to clients. Focus on particularly complex, special situations where standard approaches are not sophisticated enough to give the best client advice. Clients were primarily in TMT (Technology, Media, Telecom), Industrials and Consumer/Retail sectors. Advice led to a wide variety of transactions, including debt, IPOs, corporate derivatives, equity derivatives, and mergers and acquisitions (M&A).

I started and led a mobile analytics company while also working part time as a consultant to a venture capital fund where I sourced deals, performed due diligence, and advised portfolio companies on strategic/operational issues while also building the company. SocialSense's product was an API that used machine learning and behavioral analytics to infer interests and other characteristics from user behavior on a mobile phone.

Led consulting teams serving senior leadership (typically EVP or C-level clients of Fortune 500 companies) across many industries/functions, e.g., - Growth strategy: Recommended organic/inorganic growth strategy for a U.S. media conglomerate with $5bn+ revenue impact. Developed strategy to stem subscriber losses and revamp product line for a telecom company, resulting in $300mm+ revenue impact and potential $1bn+ impact in 3-5 yrs. - Post-merger management: Led 30+ person teams overseeing a $3bn cross-border acquisition of an industrial equipment manufacturer and a $15-20bn acquisition of a telecom company. - Wireless/mobile media strategy: Developed mobile content/applications strategy for a major mobile device OEM and a large U.S. cable company. - Venture capital/private equity: Recommended investment strategy for an Asian venture capital fund, directly resulting in ~$500mm+ investment. Also developed international growth strategy for a U.S. private equity fund.

Developed machine learning and artificial intelligence algorithms to recognize and adapt to a user's emotional state based on speech, facial features, physiological features, and other signals. Research included speech recognition, natural language processing, behavioral analytics, and other related techniques. Worked closely with the MIT Media Lab's corporate sponsors to apply our technology to their businesses.

Worked with a senior level client team of a major global software company to develop a new sales strategy for one of its major product lines. The work included data analysis on very large data sets. This was a summer internship position.
