So, What's My Story?I cut my teeth as a designer working for small shops all over Southern California. I always wanted to be an artist. As a kid you would find me under a stack of Walter Foster How-To-Draw books doodling out characters or creating my own. In high school, when I wasn't in art class, I was busy creating flip animations in the margins of all my text books (teachers loved me). In college, I began to hone my skills as a designer while finding my way around a computer. My first job as a production artist had me learning the design ropes old-school style with blue lines, stat cameras, and cut & paste type (not the computer kind). The next 18 years would see me working as a jr. designer, sr. designer, art director, and finally creative director on some of the most successful regional, national and international brands in the world.After nearly 20 years, I decided it was time to set out on my own. I opened Phil Holmes Design in 2009 with the idea of bringing good design to everyone without the big agency attitude or big agency price tag. Just carefully crafted communications that tell the right story in just the right way. After all, that's what good design is all about.So, that's my story. I bet you have one too.
