A strong conceptual thinker and designer, Philip is a senior associate architect at Osmond Lange Architects & Planners in Cape Town who specialises in housing, design and theory. He completed his Masters in Architecture degree (Professional) at the University of Pretoria, receiving the Johann Basson Energy Efficient Design Prize for his thesis being selected as the most energy efficient design. Throughout his career he has been involved in all stages of the design and construction process, including being part of award winning projects. Recently he started investigating the experience of spacetime in architecture together with the theory of slow space. He is particularly interested in re-using existing buildings in alternative ways, while solving problems artistically.Besides working on architectural projects, he has also been involved in academic activities, including articles and books. He presented the theory of 'three-dimensional sites' at the International Union of Architects World Congress in Durban in 2014. He acts as external examiner for the Tshwane University of Technology on an ad hoc basis, taught second-year building construction at Vega Cape Town and also writes about architecture.
