News EditorBbc News Jan 2011 - Mar 2014London, United KingdomNews Editor, Olympic Torch Relay, BBC News, February 2012-September 2012:Part of a small team responsible for planning/covering the historic Olympic Torch Relay across the UK. It required strict budget adherence, and many hours of negotiations internally within the BBC and with the Olympic organisers as well as UK government, local government, the police , the army , navy and air force to name a few. All of the coverage required live event planning and planning for news bulletins, radio and digital. Some of the events I was specifically personally responsible for included the torch’s arrival on the UK mainland, its arrival in Liverpool , its tour of Windsor castle and greeting by the Queen, its arrival at Buckingham palace and meeting with William, Kate and Harry , and its final day in London arriving by air at the Tower of London. All of these events stretched the technology and our imagination to the limit and required us to solve problems never before encountered in news coverage. The whole coverage was nominated for a BAFTA.News Editor General Election Lib Dem Leader Team, January 2010-June 2010:I was the team leader on the Lib Dem team for the 2010 General Election, responsible for a team of 10 journalists. We were required to provide live coverage and packaged material for all news outlets wherever the Leader team went, by land, sea and air. It was my responsibility to build relations and contacts with Nick Clegg and his press team, to advise London and Westminster of editorial lines, movements , important developments, and to work out the logistics on an hour by hour basis as events unfolded. As the story developed, we of course became the story that election, which resulted in us also being the main coverage team for the coalition negotiations, 24 hours a day for over a week after the actual election. The role also required me to foster good relations with the other broadcasters and journalists, while maintaining a competitive advantage over them. -
