I’m a high school English teacher by day, but I spend my weekends and summers planning special events for theatrical groups in Charlottesville and New York. In 2014, a play I wrote was accepted to FringeNYC, and I spent the next six months planning all the details of the production. With the organizational skills of a teacher, the creativity of a director and management skills honed at Wells Fargo, event planning was something that came naturally to me. Upon returning from our successful run at FringeNYC, I started a bit of a trend of playwrights, actors and directors wanting to perform their shows in New York. Sensing an opportunity, I offered my planning and management skills to other groups who were planning to take their projects on the road. I’ve managed all the logistics, communication, fundraising and marketing elements of three productions over the last three years. When I’m not in the classroom teaching or planning events, I can usually be found sampling the newest offerings at the shocking number of vineyards and breweries around Charlottesville or traveling to New York or DC to soak up some big city culture. Short trips to New York aren’t cutting it for me anymore, so I’m planning to leave my high school teaching days behind and focus fully on event planning or use my education and coaching skills in a corporate environment.
