About Philip Smith
I am a Physics PhD Student at the University of Bristol, where I am part of the Nuclear Energy Futures Centre for Doctoral Training (NEF CDT), a multidisciplinary programme that aims to address the challenges and opportunities of nuclear energy. I have been involved in several innovation labs, where I collaborated with researchers from different fields and sectors to tackle real-world problems for small and medium enterprises (SMEs).Besides my academic research, I am also been an active community member and the Faculty of Science PGR Representative, where I advocated for the interests and needs of postgraduate researchers in my faculty, especially in regard to personal finance. I have also volunteered at various science festivals, hosting a virtual reality nuclear experience for the public and have received multiple awards and bursaries for my professional skills and contributions to research culture. I am passionate about sustainability, how nuclear energy can play a role in achieving a low-carbon future, and in social change to improve excellence through equal opportunity.
