Program Coordinator
Waikato, New Zealand
• Creating and supervising the Youth, OSCAR, Sports and Outdoors sectors of Youthtown, Te Awamutu. Within this role it is vital to research, analyse and understand the community and compare against what is already available. From this data the programmes are adjusted to meet the needs of the rangatahi and tamariki in the community, to bring out the best in themselves and environment. • Established a programme known as “Ka Neke Te Katoa” which is directed to those individuals who resist or do not participate in physical activity. There are many reasons to not participate whether it is physical, mental, financial or circumstantial. This programme was designed with a theory and practical side. The theory looks at challenges, barriers, self esteem, confidence, goal setting, interests and dislikes of each individual that prevents them from participating in physical activity. The practical side involves using local businesses that offer a range of activities that are a bit out of the ordinary such as yoga, mixed martial arts, rock climbing, dog walking, archery and dance. The practical allows each individual to be introduced to something new that may appeal to them. We are there to help them discuss with the school, whanau and our leaders to help continue on physical activity throughout their lives. This is now one of our most popular programmes delivered throughout intermediate and secondary schools throughout the Waikato. • Communicating and collaborating with other providers, Councils and stakeholders to ensure that we can work together and create opportunities for our New Zealand tamaraki and rangatahi to become the best that they can be. • Managing, scheduling, and training 5 staff members for the programmes.
