I had the opportunity to accomplish an internship at the CSIRO Land and Water Laboratories among a research team who works on groundwater quality issues. I was first involved into the assessment of the current regional groundwater flow model of the Perth coastal region. More precisely my tasks were: - to analyze and understand the numerical implementation of the model (MF-2000), - to pinpoint its shortcomings and bottlenecks, - to specifically asses the recharge model used and its limitations, - to set up and implement possible improvements to the recharge model, - to explore the possibility of using a different modeling framework (MF-USG, MF-OWHM), - to assist the research team with the pre- and post-processing of the large amount of model's input and output using Python scripts After this internship, I have stayed to work on my MSc thesis in the same laboratory. My thesis focused on developing a solute and transport model to assess the large-scale and long-term impacts of groundwater replenishment in the Perth region. The main challenge consisted into merging the local-scale high-resolution transport model and the regional scale groundwater flow model. I have elaborate a solution using the newly published MF-USG framework and I am pleased to say that this solution will be further used to asses other groundwater issues in the Perth region.

I worked as a tutorial assistant for the Chair of Urban Water Management. During this period, I was able to successfully conduct two distinct projects under the guidance of Dr. Frank Blumensaat.The first task consisted in setting up an automatic calibration procedure for an hydrodynamic model (SWMM). The goal was to offer a reproducible calibration approach to be used with different surface roughness data sets. In the second part of my work as a tutorial assistant, I was asked to elaborate a tool to automatically identified and modeled extreme events of rainfall time series.During this period, I had the chance to contribute to a scientific publication and to deepened my understanding in urban water drainage and model calibration. I gained experience in the statistical analysis of rainfall and water quality measurements. My knowledge of Matlab programming was also greatly increased and I was able to set up a relatively complex script to handle the analysis of "extreme" events of different type of measurements.

Parallely to my study at EPFL I have regularly worked for the Poseidon team. The main task was to provide IT support to the students and personal of the EPFL campus for both software (all operating systems) and hardware. I also had the task to give advice on laptop purchase.
