Scientific AssistantIt'Is Foundation Jun 2011 - Apr 2012ZürichIn charge of the development and maintenance of a physical parameter reference database that is used worldwide for safety evaluations of wireless electronic devices such as cell phones or MRIs. -
Phd Candidate, Research And Teaching AssistantUniversity Of Zürich Jun 2006 - Jun 2011I studied the function of the putative RNA Helicase HELZ using molecular biological, biochemical and immunological tools. The following are my main scientific achievements:1. The putative RNA helicase HELZ promotes protein translation and cancer cell proliferation.• I found that depletion of HELZ from MCF7 (human breast adenocarcinoma) cells or HeLa (cervical cancer) cells results in a significant decrease of cell proliferation. • HELZ plays a role in translation initiation and the phosphorylation of the ribosomal protein S6, which is a component of the mTOR signaling pathway. This pathway is known to be dysregulated in many human cancers. 2. Conserved LxxLAP motifs within a protein are not a prerequisite for oxygen-dependent regulation.• Even though the site of oxygen-dependent regulation in the HIF protein is found within a LxxLAP protein sequence motif, in other proteins it is not. Therefore, a protein sequence screen for this motif does not help to find novel proteins that play a function within the hypoxic microenvironment of a tumor.

M.Sc Pharm Candidate, Research AssistantHebrew University Sep 2003 - Feb 2006Studied the effect of cigarette smoke on Eosinophil biology and discovered that cigarette smoke aggrevates Asthma by activating eosinophils to release pro-inflammatory mediators. -
InternshipHebrew University Jun 2002 - Jun 2003Identified salt requirement of Halanaerobium praevalens and Salinibacter for optimal growth (0.4-0.5 M and > 3M respectively). Salinibacter has the highest chloride concentration requirement of all eubacteria organisms.
