I have encountered many individuals who have shape the enthusiastic and optimistic person I've become today.Growing up with Vietnamese refugee parents, life is not always smooth-sailing. My mother loved taking me outdoors with my brothers and we would encounter many different individuals, despite her lack of English, we have been able to get by, and get along with our local community. Being a part of my local church parish, I have met amazing individuals that have taught me to acknowledge cultural and ideological differences, and to embrace these differences in order to support and develop our community. I have been to nursing homes with my mother to help those that are unable to go to church, developing memorable relationships with the elderly. This exposed me to the lifestyles and ideologies of individuals in the older generations.During my high-school years, I was blessed to be in two amazing communities that have fostered me and supported my development as an individual. In McKinnon, the teachers and student leaders have exposed me to many clubs and events that have developed my extroverted character. Being part of the choir, sailing club and participating in the House Music Festivals and Sports Carnivals, I have been able to break out of my shell and make new friends within the diverse community. My experience at John Monash has further improved my communication and confidence as students came from all parts of the state - even from overseas as well! Furthermore, this school has encouraged me to develop independence and critical thinking which I believe are essential in creating future leaders.In this time, I had an amazing opportunity to work at McDonald's - a fast-paced job that has trained me to face strenuous conditions such as working under time constraints and having demanding customers.This has all lead me to where I am today - studying the first year of my Nursing Bachelors at Monash University. As a future nurse, I aspire to make a positive impact in patient-centred care - to understand and embrace the cultural differences of our multicultural society to improve the health outcomes of any patient.I am currently looking for a part-time/casual job to learn and develop new life-long skills. I am also hoping to be accepted for a fellowship program which will grant me many opportunities to explore different specialisations, enriching my nursing studies. I have a strong interest in customer service and care, and can offer to my employer teamwork, communication and time-management skills alongside my outgoing, extroverted personality.
