The Associate Director, PhD Innovation, primary role is to lead the expansion of the PhD Innovation (PhD.I) program across UNE. Within the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Research, the position is responsible for maintaining and building new domestic and international partnerships and projects, in the development of higher degree research innovation opportunities.

An academic appointment involving Higher Degree Research (HDR) education and training, HDR administration duties and research and HDR research supervision. This includes provision of support for HDR candidates, supervisors and early career researchers through the development, implementation and coordination of research seminars and/or conferences. Support for HDR supervisors and provision of advice and information on research supervision practice and the scholarship of research education. The development and management of a industry and professional based HDR and the teaching of specialised innovation units into that higher degree. The development of an on-line HDR community to support face to face research training and development with webinar-based training.

I carried out research focused on the connection between animal husbandry, nutrition and stress and fish growth, survival and post – mortem flesh quality characteristics. The research created a scientific basis for the development of industry tools, methods and innovations for improving fish survival, growth and product quality.Within this role I also initiated, and with University of Sunshine Coast developed and co-supervised postgraduate research for SBT propagation. The research contributed significantly to our knowledge and provided a scientific basis for the ongoing development of industry tools, and techniques for achieving SBT propagation. My role involved working closely with multiple stakeholders including government regulators, fishermen, fish farmers and scientists in Australia and overseas in order to determine and achieve agreed outcomes.

My role was project management in flesh quality, food technology and animal nutrition for the Southern Bluefin Tuna (SBT) industry. I was leader of a research team operating in collaboration with aqua-business, aquaculture, food technology and scientists within Australia and internationally. Focused on the innovative development of SBT product quality maximisation.
