I am finishing with Federation University, Australia today having joined VIOSH @ University of Ballarat in 2011. The university has undergone considerable change and is no longer known as University of Ballarat. In fact the university has grown and the bigger picture it seeks to represent now is indicated by the name Federation University, Australia. Federation University, Australia is a dual sector university and trades as Federation University and Federation TAFE. VIOSH has been a part of both sectors, i.e. the Higher Education and Research sector and the Vocational Education and Training (TAFE) sector. Despite a good deal of change in structures and general presence, VIOSH remains and maintains the qualities that made VIOSH a leader in OHS learning and action. Though no longer having a Vocational Education section as Federation TAFE has cut the programs.My focus has been the vocational sector (TAFE), a sector where some concerns about quality have often been raised in recent years. My higher education colleagues and I worked to ensure that what is offered is robust and of a quality to form strong foundations in OHS (WHS) practice for industry. We held that Professionals that came through the VIOSH pathway from vocational training as practitioners through to higher education as professionals are better equipped to manage safety effectively. My role was delivery and development of certificate courses, short courses, Health and Safety Representative training, and consulting to industry. I contributed OHS education and training to a number of other course disciplines in both vocational and high education courses. Including Brewing, Engineering, Live Production, and Nursing.All administration, promotion, planning, event management, presentation, compliance and continuous improvement of training and the overall Vocational program fell on my shoulders up until the cutting of the courses.

Workers compensation claim management and return to work coordination.OHS projects,Workplace OHS inspections,Risk management reports,Incident investigationPolicy and procedure development, review of consultative procedures and contractor compliance.I developed integrated in house systems for operation of residential facilities caring for adolescents with challenging behaviours. The systems encompassed: communication; maintenance of the buildings and environment; and maintaining the well being, safety and ongoing development of staff and young people in care.The result of consultation with workers, management and young people was a system capable of being duplicated flexibly in other residential facilities. Through further consultation and negotiation It was introduced in all MacKillop residential facilities across the western metropolitan region. As a result of my contributions to operations and safety, while a residential supervisor I was requested to apply for a safety role in 2004.
