Freetown, Sierra Leone

Provided direction, coordination and oversight of daily operations of Sierra Leone’s largest Ebola response community in the capital of Freetown. In this role I had to quickly learn, understand and assimilate the differing ways in which NGOs operate in order to provide timely direction to over 150 core staff and 2000 field workers. Responsible for the planning of initiatives at the district level with a population of 1.5m+, I saw the number of transmission chains drop from around 15 down to 1. Awarded the Queen’s Commendation for Valuable Service for my work on the operation.

The operations lead for an organisation of 120+ personnel and the deployment and maintenance of an equipment portfolio of $3m+. The key project in this role was the introduction of two new communications systems in to service. The company was the first to trial the two systems in conjunction to one another. Utilising a new broadband line of sight radio system with a secure NATO and Mission Secret application suite and linking them in to an existing Satcom architecture.

The team leader for a highly technical signals platoon that provided deployed communication services to a multinational NATO formation.
