I led two award-winning research projects while I was still in high school. I tested how old and new allergy medications alleviate Parkinson's symptoms and how red food dye impacts reproduction. I showcased my work to science professionals, judges, and the superintendent of my school district. I won a plaque for my outstanding research, 1st and 3rd place medals, and was publicized in my school's news. Throughout it all, I learned and became more prepared for the research and work I hope to do with you in the future.So, how did I get here?:When I was 9 years old I watched the Flash run around Central City to stop villains, and I watched Barry Allen run around the lab to stop criminals. I immediately fell in love with forensic science, and after reading Judy Melinek's Working Stiff, I couldn't see myself entering any other field than forensic pathology.I know that top-notch proficiency in the life sciences is a must for this field, so I took AP Chemistry, Biology, and Physics in high school. I have no plans to slow my roll, and will continue taking the most rigorous courses available at William & Mary.If you asked my teachers, they'd say I bring a driven enthusiasm to learning. It’s not unusual to witness me seizing one of my teacher’s whiteboards to eagerly explain buffers, DNA structure, t-distributions, or some physics concept.To add on further, I learn for learning's sake. Forced to choose between a higher GPA or a deeper understanding-- I'll choose a deeper understanding every time.So, when I was given the choice between taking an additional AP science or an honors research class in my senior year-- I chose the research.
