Profile bio

About David Phung, P. Eng., Cfa

I am an executive with extensive commercial and technical experience, encompassing restructuring and turnarounds, capital markets, private equity and debt, corporate strategy and planning, as well as oil and gas engineering and operations.Over the past three years, I restructured, turned around, and took Greenfire public, achieving a US$950 million valuation in September 2023. My current focus is on Regal 1921, where I am seeking attractive opportunities to invest capital and time to help businesses grow.In June 2020, I was brought in to assist Greenfire, a small 4,000 bbls/d oil sands company, through insolvency and restructuring challenges exacerbated by the pandemic. Through a formal court process, the asset was sold to a group of international investors, and I was appointed CFO of the new entity. Greenfire subsequently raised US$312.5 million in the US corporate bond market in August 2021 and acquired Japan Canada Oil Sands, increasing proforma production to over 20,000 bbls/d. On September 20, 2023, Greenfire refinanced US$300 million of debt with an additional C$50 million revolver from Bank of Montreal and concurrently listed on the NYSE at a US$950 million valuation. I resigned from Greenfire on September 30, 2023, as part of an orderly executive transition. Before joining Greenfire, I took on the responsibilities of the outgoing VP Finance at Fractal Energy, a start-up oil and gas company backed by ARC Financial. I leveraged my engineering and finance background to evaluate and acquire upstream assets in Western Canada, building a targeted portfolio. Alongside internal idea generation, I maintained a network of professionals in capital markets and oil and gas companies to identify external business development opportunities.Prior to Fractal Energy, I led the Canadian oil and gas equity research team at Credit Suisse, a global investment bank. I developed a global perspective by evaluating oil and gas companies with assets in the Montney and Deep Basin in Western Canada, as well as international E&P assets in Europe, Australasia, Southeast Asia, South America, the Middle East, and Africa. My capital markets experience is complemented by practical industry experience in operations engineering, exploitation engineering, and corporate strategy/planning at Talisman Energy.

Listed skills include Financial Modeling, Petroleum, Oil And Gas, Upstream, and 27 others.
