I serve as APIAHiP's first full-time Executive Director and will continue to define the role by working closely with the Board of Directors to develop a vision for the organization that advances APIAHiP’s mission to protect historic places and cultural resources significant to Asian and Pacific Islander Americans through historic preservation and heritage conservation by - • cultivating an information-sharing network to connect and support local communities and their historic preservation efforts; • offering educational programs and strategic or technical services that enable communities to preserve their heritage through a place-based ethic;• advocating to increase public and private resources and lower barriers for historic preservation at local, state, and national levels.

I serve as the organization’s main point-of-contact & management of all place-based advocacy campaigns & programs, including: • Four capital improvement grant programs (historic barns, cemeteries, county courthouses, & theaters) housed within the WA State Department of Archaeology & Historic Preservation (DAHP) & funded by the state legislature every biennium. • Third Places Fund grant program, under contract with DAHP & provided by NPS’s Paul Bruhn Historic Revitalization Grant Program (2021), to support the preservation of community gathering spaces. • Valerie Sivinski Fund grant program, providing funds to grassroots organizations & community groups engaged in preservation projects or campaigns around the state. • Most Endangered Places program, bringing attention to threatened buildings, sites, & historic places in Washington by providing technical or strategic support in effective & innovative ways. • Youth Heritage Project, an overnight summer program for high-school students, focused on the history, culture, & nature of Washington’s special places. • WA State Heritage Caucus & Lobby Day (within Preservation Action’s National Historic Preservation Advocacy Week), tracking & advocating for progressive preservation policies & legislative action at the state & federal levels, respectively. • Revisiting Washington (RevisitWA), a virtual highway guide to The Evergreen State, originating with road trip tours from the 1941 Federal Writer’s Project publication & now continuing to add cultural heritage routes around the state. • Section 106 & NEPA/SEPA consultation, to ensure that State & Federal undertakings result in the best treatment of historic & cultural resources, including the recommendation & actualization of resulting mitigation efforts & programs. • Develop, plan, & support special events, educational outreach programs, & digital media production to make preservation more accessible & engaging to a statewide audience.

• Assist applicants through the design review process in accordance with the Unified Development Code• Produce recommendation reports for historic resources based on Historic Design Guidelines to the Historic and Design Review Commission• Prepare and conduct in-person and virtual public commission hearings, subcommittee meetings, and site visits in accordance with Texas Open Meetings Act• Respond to citizen reports, conduct investigations, and develop proactive programs regarding violations of the Historic Preservation Code, Certificates of Appropriateness, and other related regulations• Coordinate with other City departments and wireless providers in the deployment of 5G technology in the public right-of-way in historic and design districts• Develop, plan, and support special events, educational outreach programs, and digital media production• Recommend and develop programmatic and procedural innovations to the Historic Preservation Officer and Deputies

By participating in both internships simultaneously, I was able to engage in a wide variety of museum procedures under the mentorship of each museum’s curator. Primarily, I learned how to properly acquire, handle, label, describe, and accession individual artifacts (manually at EAAM and digitally at EMAHS), before finally designing and setting up new exhibits. Other experiences included event planning, program development, and researching financial resources available to public institutions like museums.
