After UCT I was offered the opportunity to start a branch in East London recruiting agents to sell products in a brochure.The customer would choose "hampers" and the agent would call weekly and exchange cash for stamps. The stamps were attached to the relevant Order sheet .When the full purchase price was reflected, the agent would bring the cards to the office and we would deliver the goods.It was originally a Xmas Hamper Club concept. After 2 years I had 1800 agents throughout East London and the Transkei.I was 22 years old and Surfing had become my LIFE.. Bobby Joubert and I started JOUBERT SURFBOARDS .Springbok surfers in our surf team included Gavin Rudolph, Dave Hansen, Dave Fish ,Mike Hornsey and Phillipa Hulett. I was part of the committee that hosted the FIRST GUNSTON 500 in SA .( No.. not Durban ! ) To stay ahead in the Surfboard Industry I managed to get to California and worked for WEBER Surfboards...they were the biggest board manufacturers in the world. We built50 boards a day.I laminated Nat Young's board under his supervision. It was 1969 and he was world Champion. Owning a Surf Shop back in SA led to introductions into the Fashion world. That journey involved Head South.. marketing CHE jeans ,Ronald Sassoon ( now Sissy Boy ) and introducing stretch denim to Harrods. While in California I took a keen interest in the local building systems which lead to me opening Property Emporium in Fourways and still completing the R&D in Alternative Building Systems ...A revolutionary Alternative to Steel...and a Fire Retard
