• Developed research strategies and experimental approaches for pharmacologic and genetic interventions in a mouse model of mitochondrial disease. The studies we undertook resulted in delay of disease progression and extension of this model organism’s lifespan. • Forged collaborations with disease experts and scientists to gain more technical and domain expertise. These collaborations resulted in novel metabolomics and gut microbiome analyses that we further developed in the lab to aid our aging and mitochondrial disease studies.• Presented findings to the research community locally as well as in national meetings such as the annual conference of the American Aging Association, a national meeting of the top research groups in the field of aging biology.

• Discovered a gene regulatory mechanism that impacted a key metabolic pathway in Huntington’s Disease (HD). Subsequently identified the protein that controlled this pathway, which enabled our group to successfully use both genetic and therapeutic approaches to further understand HD disease progression. • Developed a quantitative molecular biology assay to measure changes in the affinity of a protein to bind to its DNA target. This innovation allowed our group to validate a model of the mutational instability that leads to HD and other related disorders• Mentored undergraduate and graduate researchers in the lab. Also, volunteered as a reviewer of students’ research proposals for the Mary Gates Research Scholarship. This continued throughout the duration of my employment at the University of Washington
