Previously an HLTA delivering Literacy Intervention in an award winning Northern state Secondary School, Pippa has over 12 years rich experience of working to improve the life chances of young people in various settings, such as youth work, schools, colleges and Universities. Students who arrive with reading ages well below their chronological age were taught daily, in small holistic nurture classes, various strategies for decoding, comprehension and spelling. Through this valuable input, each cohort in Pippa’s care made significant progress in raising their reading age to be able to access the curriculum. On average students made 3-4 years upwards on their reading age within nine months of working in these personalised classes. Pippa is school specialist for Literacy, leading CPD sessions for TAs on how to maximise impact and provide outstanding support. She provides consultancy for other schools seeking to set up a strong Literacy provision. In addition, Pippa is an Academic Literacy Champion and Mental Health First Aider. She also offers private tutoring at GCSE, A-level and degree level which combined with ten years experience of youth and children's work means she is able to build successful, encouraging professional working relationships with children of any age. With a degree in Sociology, a love of people and an enthusiastic, passionate and consistent character, she is adaptable and creative; eager to master any new challenge. This was demonstrated in her time in a more creative role working in visual merchandising window dressing expertise in a large central London fashion store.Recently Pippa has taken on duties within the pastoral & inclusion team, offering trauma informed emotional health & wellbeing support to y7-13 in 121 pre-counselling drop-in appointment based talk sessions, where she is an emotionally available adult for students to share with, caring for their mental health and wellbeing, signposting them to further support services. Her new appointment at the outstanding Golddigger Trust means transforming the lives of vulnerable young people and unearthing their true value by delivering workshops, courses and mentoring programmes in secondary schools around Sheffield and in the local community. These tools equip young people to be empowered to invest proactively in their mental health and wellbeing, thus impacting their life chances for the future.
