Founder & Company DirectorPolln Limited Jun 2023 - PresentLondon, England, United KingdomA solid and experienced change consultant, former NGO MD and more recently applying my commercial (marketing / consumer behaviour) background to the academic analysis of the transition to Net Zero in the Built Environment. I consult for LSBU Net Zero Business Centre on retrofit and retrofit market transformation, especially developing tools, skills and organisational change needed to get local authorities & housing associations 'Retrofit Ready'. Polln developed a dynamic Retrofit Revolution Bootcamp for new market entrants. I spearheaded an initiative to start a Retrofit Coordinator Apprenticeship, and am currently co-chairing the National Retrofit Hub Skills working group, taking a systems approach to retrofit skills mapping & development. I remain passionate about clean energy, fair energy access and clean energy market transitions in the developing world, contributing to a new Theory of Change for SolarAid and strategies to enable greater philanthropic partnerships. Everything I do is about sustainable change and scale - and finding the funding and partnerships to make it happen. Creator of Ghosts and Gaps - a research and insight audit which interrogates human factors (beliefs / behaviours) along with system factors (gaps & legacy issues in organisational processes) to unearth deep insights and re-design customer engagement and comms to reduce process friction and elicit changes in behaviour, engagement or compliance. Curator of LSBU Climate Emergency Series (retrofit, clean heat, green skills, systems change, embodied carbon) Arch networker, partnership builder, collaborator, facilitator and communicator. Dab hand at funding bids and pitches. Naturally inquisitive. Insanely dedicated. At my happiest helping clients grapple with complex problems, drilling down to root cause and devising 'systems change' strategies that deliver real-world impact.

Research Strategist | Nzbc School Built Environment LsbuBsria Lsbu Net Zero Building Centre Oct 2019 - PresentLondon, England, United KingdomMy specialism is systems change and root cause analysis, particularly within the context of markets, go-to-market strategies, and the interface between those markets and human behaviour. My academic research for the LSBU Net Zero Building Centre mainly focuses on driving the retrofit research agenda and building a body of research around retrofit market development - from consumer insights, to market formation, to skills and sector growth or education. Having evaluated the market as a whole eco-system rather than just a technical /engineering challenge, I defined a new approach to market segmentation, identifying 2 distinct channels (public-procured & private-purchased) each with different routes to market, supply chains, & stages of maturity. This resulted in several papers on retrofit market formation and retrofit skills. I helped develop LSBU's Net Zero Short Courses & co-presented a Summer NZ Masterclass.Recently completed consumer research with Innovate to Renovate Partnership in Gloucestershire and South Gloucestershire, gave valuable insights into the private-purchase segment barriers and motivators to retrofit - full paper pending. Research conducted into resident engagement in retrofit among social housing landlords, and communicating retrofit to residents resulted in a toolkit (shortlisted for an award) I am now delivering a series of workshops to help Local Authorities and Housing Associations become Retrofit Ready and developing the toolkits further. I am engaged across the sector in various work groups to further retrofit skills development. I voluntarily convene a Retrofit Skills & Apprenticeships group, consulting the sector to define a retrofit skills pathway and influence skills development. These roundtables have instigated a Retrofit Coordinator Apprenticeship with IfATE.I am currently interim co-chair of the National Retrofit Hub Skills Group, conducting retrofit skill mapping and situational analysis. -
Curator, Lsbu Climate Emergency SeriesLondon South Bank University, School Of Built Environment & Architecture Oct 2019 - Jul 2021103 Borough Rd, London Se1 0AaI was honoured to have been invited to LSBU to curate the Climate Emergency series when I was in recovery from a long illness - a lively programme of panel discussions tackling the big questions: Retrofit, Clean Heat, Decentralised Energy, Embodied Carbon, Circular Economy, Green Skills - and how the sector should organise for the largest national transformation programme since WW2. Expanding my role to part time Research Strategist at LSBU Net Zero Building Centre then enabled me to try find some of those solutions.

Co Founder / Director Of ProgrammesActive Futures Jan 2014 - Oct 2019London, England, United KingdomAs a business woman living with a chronic condition, I am passionate about changing the prospects of those who face a bleak future due to chronic illness, especially where a lack of education, services and cohesive health and social policies leave patients trapped in pain, poverty and despair. The negative impact on the individual, their supporters and wider society is huge. Yet it needn't be this way. Active Futures was a social enterprise dedicated to delving to the heart of these issues. Our mission was to actively change the future for people with chronic conditions, especially Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and the resulting multi-system issues that arise. With my sister (also affected) we developed and ran activity programmes and Active Patient interventions such as coaching, all designed to empower patients and improve quality of life outcomes. Our programmes for children with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS) and Swimming for Children with Sensory Issues were suspended due to Coronovirus pandemic and unfortunately we have been unable to increase our limited coaching capacity. However, our booklet 'Making Sense of it All' is available on request and we are collaborating with new service providers to provide service continuity where feasible.

Interim Md / Consultant StrategistSolaraid Sep 2012 - Oct 2019Angel, LondonLeadership role, helping shape SolarAid for a glowing and growing future. Devising go-to-market / last mile distribution strategies for clean solar $10 lights in Sub-Saharan Africa. Modelling pilot programmes and channel strategies that could 'cookie cutter' into new territories. Defining the story - that clean light doesn't just brighten lives, it transforms them - uplifting all but one of the SDGs. Stepping up brand reach and communications, broadening appeals into corporate and consumer segments, growing the supporter base and up-skilling the already fabulously engaged fund-raising team based in Islington. Due to health issues, I was only supposed to be there for 6 months while they recruited a new CEO. (I stayed longer, of course!) My over-arching goal was to leave my successor with a healthy organisation, ready to put pico-solar light on the radar of Governments, aid agencies, energy providers and distributors, and into the hands of the 150million off-grid households who need them most. A major coup was taking the lead on the pitch for Google's Global Impact Award - which SolarAid fabulously won - scooping half a million in prize to develop solar careers for school leavers. As well as invaluable coverage and support from Google's brilliant team, the Google relationship led to a multi-million M&E programme https://impactchallenge.withgoogle.com/uk2013#/solaraidUnable to work f/t due to health, I returned p/t in 2017 to 2019 as strategic advisor, under the leadership of my fabulous former colleague, John Keane CEO. "Once a SolarAider, always a SolarAider" as they say! Again, my role was organisational, identifying root cause issues, aligning go-to-market strategies and supporting the leadership team. -
Interim Head Of MarketingCibse Sep 2012 - Dec 2012Balham, LondonFrom 1st October - Dec 2012 acted as interim HoM on a p/t basis while CIBSE recruited into a newly-specified Head of Marketing & Communications role. As well as reconnecting with all old buddies from the sustainability / built environment world, and meeting many new ones, I had the great fortune to work with CIBSE's marketing and PR teams. Key achievements included creating a 'collaborative hub' to break legacy silos in CIBSE's organisational structure, working to put Building Performance at the heart of CIBSE's brand strategy, as well paving the way for an energised membership offer around a more focused campaign calendar and brand strategy. -
