As a student of liberal arts at Cornell College in Mount Vernon, IA, I obtained a degree in Chemistry with a minor in Music. As a result of Cornell's rigorous block schedule, I was able to hone my abilities in time management, speaking, writing on various subjects and analytics. Additionally, I have spent my time taking a variety of courses in order to not only learn about myself, but to learn and appreciate new approaches to thinking and learning in other subjects.My time spent in the classroom and laboratory at Cornell College has been time dedicated to pursuing my passion for the field of chemistry, learning new techniques on various chemical machinery (GC-Mass Spec., UV-Vis, etc.) and working on a variety of new methods in the chemical lab. Additionally, my time spent working for the hospitality industry in additon to Cornell College's Office of Admissions has helped me learn how to effectively manage my skills at not only my work, but in the classroom as well.I do have a focus on wanting to learn new chemical processes, either by working in the chemical laboratory, or by passing on my knowledge in the field of education.I have utilized the skills I have learned in order to write and effectively manage the News Section for the college newspaper, help promote resident hall unity by serving as a member of the hall council, organize and manage finances for the chemistry club and enhance my leadership skills by serving as a student peer for Cornell's first-year students. I have also been able to serve as a leader for several of my peers by offering help through my experiences (especially so, as an introvert), which has also given me insight on my own strengths and weaknesses. I hope to encourage this strive for leadership and self-growth either in the laboratory or by teaching in the classroom.
