I have always had a passion for public health and want to do what I can to support my community. When COVID-19 was initially becoming a global concern, I immediately compiled information, such as how it spread, into a document to share with my friends and family in hopes that it would help slow the spread of the disease. I then signed up for and completed courses in COVID-19 contact tracing to gain more knowledge and skills that could be useful to helping the community. Through my work as a tracer, I have learned important listening and communication skills to add to my skill set such as active listening. This combined with my experience as experiences as a home health aide have exposed me to the realm of health information privacy, HIPAA compliance, honed my ability to gauge a person’s emotional state, and developed my ability to make judgements under pressure.
