Profile bio

About Peter Johnson

My professional objective is simply to: Proactively engage stakeholders in striving for sustainable competitiveness through people and technology.I am a technologist leader and coach with diverse experience and education able to bridge the gap between 'the business' and 'technology'. As a technologist, my interests relate to data insights and visualisation, artificial intelligence, and process automation. As a leader, I seek to develop, empower, and support stakeholders through cooperative effort, responsible ownership, and open sharing of knowledge. As a coach, I encourage and guide people and teams to become the best version of themselves.I find the ever-changing nature of technology very exciting because of the possibilities for social progress that it offers. However, for all that is changing, the need to connect and engage hearts and minds of people in the creation of outcomes remains a key aspect of any technology-enabled outcome. And whilst the bingo-lingo to accomplish this seems to be refreshed every few years, the underlying principles and methods remain relatively stable. I'm keen to assist organisations and teams create tangible outcomes with minimal bureaucracy or unnecessary complexity. Experience has taught me that such outcomes result from pursuing ideas targeting simplification, automation or self-service empowerment. Whilst this may be obvious regarding external deliverable outcomes, I consider it equally valid for delivery teams to continuously evolve how they deliver outcomes. I believe a key role of leadership is clearing the road ahead so that teams can focus on making progress. My current technology interests are focussed around the idea of empowering through simplified, automated and consistent decision making. Over the last 10 years I've spent considerable personal time exploring AI (machine learning) through creating neural networks and boosted trees. In 2023, whilst at AMP, I established and chaired an AI Working Group and championed the organisation accepting Microsoft's invitation to be one of 600 organisations globally to participate in early access of its new Copilot service.
