I was solely responsible for all aspects of educational program development, evaluation, marketing, staff recruitment, and fundraising (including grant writing). I greatly expanded our existing “Science of Helicopter” programming, as well as developed and managed an innovative (and profitable) series of hands-on science workshops. In addition, I developed a new history program aimed at fourth-grade classes and am in the process of marketing this program to local elementary school teachers. I also oversee all aspects of Girls in Science & Technology (GIST), a ten-week enrichment program held biweekly at the museum during the fall and spring. I ensure our curriculum meets Commonwealth of Pennsylvania education standards, hire and train mentors, develop advertising, solicit donations and grants, and evaluate the program. Finally, I worked with our exhibition and archives committees to develop new exhibits.

Developed and curated an exhibit titled, "A City Divided: The Civil War, Philadelphia, & the Union League," based on research for my book, "Philadelphia: A History." The exhibit features artifacts drawn from the Union League's collections as well as images and documents from several other repositories.

I teach U.S. history (1600 - 2020) at a Jewish day school in suburban Philadelphia. I work with my students to refine their writing and study skills as well as to develop a clear and accurate understanding of the major events, people, and themes of U.S. history.

I was responsible for all aspects of museum operations, including site administration, special events planning, staffing, fund raising, and exhibit development. I oversaw a small cadre of paid staff, interns, and volunteers who collectively operate the museum, on-site archives, and genealogical research library. Accomplishments include spearheading the production of a short documentary film intended for visitors.

I was responsible for all elements of site management, including the development of tour programs, hiring and scheduling of staff, and site maintenance. In addition, I spearhead fundraising programs and worked with the board of directors to develop and implement long-term financial planning strategies.

I designed and taught a variety of college history classes at a diverse Bay Area community college. In particular, I taught U.S. history I & II, the history of American women, Western Civilization, and World History. Presented and interpreted Eastern State Penitentiary’s history to the general public. Specific tasks included giving group tours, maintaining the site, conservation work, and working in the museum store. Achievements include being the top membership salesman for the 2006 season and writing the definitive history of the prison, Eastern State Penitentiary: A History.

Working in conjunction with the regular curator supervising Fonthill’s weekend operation. Specific tasks include balancing cash registers, monitoring special events, giving tours when short staffed, evaluating tour guides and other Fonthill staff, and providing general customer service.

Reporting directly to the company president, I was responsible for all aspects of the accounting department’s daily operation. This included generating invoices, managing multiple paper and electronic filing systems, doing the daily deposit and basic cash forecasting.
