Performing program, risk, and control account management with an outstanding team of professionals on a classified project for the US Air Force.

I was asked to create and lead a Project Management Office for DTS. Working with amazing project managers and IT Directors from numerous agencies, we created new processes and procedures primarily based on the PMI PMBoK. We also integrated elements of AGILE, SCRUM, and LEAN to create the most effective methods for our needs. I work with the best IT professionals I've ever known, and I get to work with an outstanding and effective senior management team that meets in a regular portfolio meeting each week to review and approve project requests, phases, and resources. In my last year at DTS, we began integrating 'Theory of Constraint' methods into our processes and our project throughput increased 386% over the previous two years!

I was responsible for telecommunications assets of the State of Utah, including network, telephone, two-way radio and microwave infrastructures. In my last year in that position, our team was able to execute a budget in excess of $40M within 1%.

I was responsible for the managing the staff and resources of the State of Utah's microwave and public safety two-way radio network. I also served at appointment by the Governor on the Utah Communications Agency Network, which was constructing a new 800MHz trunked radio network.

As a Senior Network Planner, I was responsible for the design, architecture, and inventory of the State of Utah's microwave and two-way radio infrastructure. One of my favorite aspects of this position was creating and maintaining highly detailed Visio drawings of over a hundred mountaintop communication sites. I was also able to design new facilities and executed contracts and projects to have them constructed.

Starting in Richfield and later Cedar City, I was responsible for the installation, maintenance and repair of public safety radio infrastructure and end-user devices for the south-central and south-western regions of Utah. I enjoyed the interactions with our state's first responders, and it was during this time that I did volunteer work for Iron County Ambulance. I was able to design a county-wide radio and paging system that was capable of transmitting AED data across the network. It was also during this time that I was presented the 'State Employee of the Year' award by Governor Leavitt.

Fresh out of military service, I found a home in a small family-owned shop. Petersen Electric treated me like family and I miss them to this day. I was Involved with sales as well as installation and service of two-way radios, marine radios, sonar, and cellular phones. (Yes, there was a day when cellular phones were not quite so disposable!)

I started as a Ground Radio Repair Technician and ended up as the Communications Chief of a Western Pacific Deployment with the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit. Looking back, the four years seems like a short period of time, but it was the most formative four years of my adult life. I enjoyed those years of service, and only chose not to re-enlist because I wanted to start a family.
