About Prasenjit Das

Electrification is a key focus area to reduce GHG emissions under the banner of Energy Transition. In the complete electricity value chain, there is aggressive change happening in all the areas, simultaneously. Action is most in the low-voltage (LV) distribution area with rapid proliferation of distributed energy resources (DERs) - EVs, heat-pumps, battery storage etc.; EV occupying a special position. Bulk generation is trying to move to clean sources (renewables and storage), but with certain challenges, a hybrid sourcing model is currently the best bet. Transmission is focussing on the balancing and congestion of the grid, while retail is looking into means of providing energy efficiency to its customers. Energy trading is taking new shape too with the coming of new markets and platforms (viz flex markets) and new ways of looking at the ecosystem viz Transactive Energy. With thought leadership and working closely with colleagues from research and innovation, sales and delivery, I am enabling TCS to engage with customers and various players of the eco-system in the above value-chain areas, creating opportunities for TCS’ growth in this spaceI have worked as relationship and business development manager of multiple relationships in TCS, worked with board of directors and senior management of customers, advising on data journeys and delivering success on multiple strategic projects that have been showcased as best-executed projects in the customer organizationI have worked as the Account Manager and Group Leader of a major account in Utilities, helping it emerge from a severe crisis and putting in the path of growth with a series of delivery improvement measuresI have worked in the presales area, leading the growth of an Industrial IoT Platform of TCS, shaping the proposals to engage with the customer, leading proactive sales pitches, and jointly engineering solutions with external and internal stakeholders

    Prasenjit is leading the growth and uptake of TCS' Industrial-IOT in the Utilities Power Generation industry.For the past 1.5 years, have been actively pursuing the growth of renewables footprint within my current organization. Presently heading an initiative that is conceiving data-oriented solutions encompassing renewables, starting with wind energy as it is the most mature of the renewables portfolio for EU nations who have been the pioneer of wind energy. Solar follows but it's penetration is not as prolific as wind. Though the uptake of renewables is appreciable but current policy regulations still hinder the full fledged adoption. Moreover, intermittency of renewables generation poses a challenge of its power integration with the the grid. So it is expected that the market of utility scale batteries will grow rapidly - not only arresting the curtailment of wind power but also providing the required capacity firming and the other ancillary services that are vital for the grid operations. Needless to mention that with the advent of renewables, new market interaction mechanisms will come providing flexibility to all parties and new opportunities to sell and procure power. Looking forward to the opportunities that the changing eco-system provides.
