Electrification is a key focus area to reduce GHG emissions under the banner of Energy Transition. In the complete electricity value chain, there is aggressive change happening in all the areas, simultaneously. Action is most in the low-voltage (LV) distribution area with rapid proliferation of distributed energy resources (DERs) - EVs, heat-pumps, battery storage etc.; EV occupying a special position. Bulk generation is trying to move to clean sources (renewables and storage), but with certain challenges, a hybrid sourcing model is currently the best bet. Transmission is focussing on the balancing and congestion of the grid, while retail is looking into means of providing energy efficiency to its customers. Energy trading is taking new shape too with the coming of new markets and platforms (viz flex markets) and new ways of looking at the ecosystem viz Transactive Energy.
