I'm delighted to announce my new position at the University of Queensland. I was hired as a academic tutor for a first year engineering course (ENGG1100). This course shows first years the reality of working on an engineering project with a group. I thoroughly enjoyed taking this course so I was excited to come back as a tutor. In my role, I oversee specific groups in the class and guide them throughout the 13 week course as they build their remote control fire extinguishing prototype. It was very exciting to see their final results on Demo Day.

I am excited to announce my position as a Student Leader in the UQ Women in Computing program, which was pioneered this year at UQ. Kellie King has worked tirelessly to create strong foundations for this program and handpicked a wonderful group of student leaders to help her. My goal in the program is to support women including high school students who want to pursue a career in technology to not be overwhelmed by an industry that is still male-dominated. Special thanks to Reggie for building a fantastic image of the program on social media and on the UQ website. I’m very excited to execute all the wonderful ideas we have planned together in the coming year.

For the last six months I have been an EAIT Ambassador at the University of Queensland. The main goal of ambassadors is to promote engineering and IT subjects to high school students especially to students who do not have the resources but are passionate about the EAIT field. Different workshops are conducted to allow students to see the potential engineering has. Workshops I have been a part of include helping students build a prosthetic arm and teaching them to code Arduinos to perform various tasks. This role has been fulfilling and exciting as I see students love for engineering and IT grow. I hope to continue to inspire students to pursue a career in the EAIT field.

I am so excited to announce my position on the Women in Engineering student leader team. I have been passionate about diversity in engineering since I began my degree. This position will allow me to continue to inspire more girls to see engineering as an option they can choose. As a student leader, I lead engineering based workshops for high school students. In addition, I have gained professional development opportunities through networking and mentoring with industry representatives. I'm very excited to continue being part of the WE team and to see what we achieve next.

Over the last three years I have built a thriving private tutoring business. I manage over 10 clients every week, tutoring in a variety of subjects including Maths Methods, Specialist Maths, Chemistry, Physics, Digital Solutions and English. This business has taught me that organisation, time management and being professional is key to building a successful new business.

My love for teaching began at the age of sixteen when I was hired at Kumon. I taught mathematics and english, marked and provided homework. Learning how to teach students from prep to high school gave me the communication and leadership skills I use to this day when tutoring at UQ or in my group projects. My organisation skills were also massively improved over the four years working as homework had to be marked and redistributed to the 250 students in the centre every week.

I'm thrilled on receiving a position on the UQ EUS Connect team. Our main goal as a club is to plan and run social and academic events for first year engineering students. As media officer, I oversee the Instagram and Facebook pages and advertise our events on all social media platforms. I'm thrilled to work with the team this year and grow our club!

As part of my work experience program, I worked at the Hamilton Harbour Medical Centre. During my visit I learnt how to take and manage payments, interact with patients in person and over the phone and book appointments. I managed four doctors calendars and ran errands whenever needed. I learnt how to use the fax machine and landline allowing me to run an effective and efficient practice.
