Profile bio

About Priscilla A. Williams

An activist, advocate, and social justice visionary, I offer over 10 years of experience serving marginalized and underrepresented populations by developing, launching, and facilitating programs and initiatives. My work thus far has helped to improve the lives of individuals and families experiencing homelessness and mental health, substance abuse, and domestic violence issues. Daily, I collaborate with multidiscipline teams, external agencies, and stakeholders to enhance service offerings, ensure equal representation in policies, and breakdown barriers preventing equity and equality when it comes to social and economic justice. I promote the notion that education, community outreach, and the elimination of stigmas are critical in eradicating systemic, institutional, and architectural barriers that hinder economic growth. Selection of Career Achievements: Placed 23 homeless individuals into public housing and connected 17 people with prevention/diversion counseling to support continuous tenancies.Bridged cultural differences between city leaders, the community, and those served while advocating for access to housing on behalf of families and the homeless.Spread awareness as a documentary talk host for WSJ, Boston Globe, Fox 25, and Suffolk University with features for overcoming homelessness and recognition for lived experience.Amplified voices of marginalized communities by helping to empower story-sharing at legislative events as a peer leader and industry mentor.Selected as a CMV ambassador covering 14 events in 12 months; spoke at two events at the 2015 Forum on Domestic Violence and Urban Edge and Up from the Underground Art Experience at the Brahmin Center To join my network and the charge against homelessness, message or connect with me today. Together, we can change how the world views homelessness, making it a humanitarian crisis, not a political issue.

Listed skills include Public Speaking, Nonprofit Organizations, Community Outreach, Volunteer Management, and 8 others.

Aug 2018 - Present

Resident Capacity Program Coordinator

Boston, Massachusetts

Homelessness is an epidemic in Boston, and the COVID-19 pandemic exacerbates this challenge and threatens global housing stability. Having personally experienced homelessness during the 2008 recession, I made it my mission to connect those in need with public and affordable housing options while championing the equity and equality of underserved populations. Over four years, I expanded the offerings available through our Resident Capacity Program for residents across the public housing and section 8 portfolios by launching new capacity-building and economic empowerment programs and initiatives. This meant working with the community to make partnerships and teaching LTOs, landlords, leaders, and stakeholders about fair representation in policy and programming.✅Launched a Resident Ambassador Training Series for Economic Equity; hosted a Pan-Citywide Resident Empowerment Coalition Kick-Off event with over 110 attendees; and led our 2020 Census iCount Campaign.✅Improved the sustainability of public housing by setting up resident advocacy programs for LTOs of RAD properties.✅Collaborated with 35 Resident Task Force Boards, property managers, and community partners to develop long-term solutions for affordable housing.✅ Expanded resident digital equity initiatives, including access to digital equity devices, Wi-Fi hotspots, and food and medical services.✅Communicated appropriate policy development recommendations to Boston lobbyists, the public, and other stakeholders and presented them to community and resident organizations, Federal and State agency partners.✅Delivered advice on targeted resident and community engagement initiatives by suggesting short- / long-term plans based on research.✅ Represented BHA at national conferences; disseminated updated information and statistics.

Oct 2018 - Jul 2022

Graduate Research Assistant

Boston, Massachusetts

Fact-based, relevant information is key in making strides against today’s injustices and is pivotal in advocating for marginally underserved populations. After performing in-depth qualitative / quantitative research and analysis, I gained valuable insights into many areas, including economic, social, racial, and tax justice; human, land housing, and labor rights; health equity; access to education; sustainability and climate emergency.I leveraged these insights to progress the autonomy of individuals experiencing homelessness, mental health, unemployment, and / or other barriers. Throughout this time, I developed lasting relationships with community members, while creating a coalition among constituents, representatives, and organizations.• Spread awareness while sharing my personal experiences during meetings and discussions that I hosted, moderated, and participated in.• Conducted literature reviews for two research professors from the Department of Management and Entrepreneurship utilizing a stereotype content model, collaborative research frameworks, and human resources principles.

Sep 2016 - May 2018

Lead Housing Specialist

Boston, Massachusetts

Domestic and dating violence doesn’t discriminate, impacting people of all ages from diverse cultural, social, and economic backgrounds. As part of a dedicated team, I supported those in need by making changes within the housing department, most notably implementing a rapid re-housing program for survivors and their families.I set the program up for success by introducing standard operating procedures, new administrative processes, and best practices. As the program grew, I solicited feedback and monitored its effectiveness, facilitating continuous improvements, while updating our training curricula (for staff and participants), distributing inter-department training materials, and dispensing job aides.✅Leveraged capacity building initiatives to improve access to service offerings (case management, resources, advocacy) that benefitted the shelter and the wider community.✅Stimulated progress through multiagency coordination and collaborations with housing experts (internal / external) and senior staff.✅Formed a network of sustainable connections while negotiating and securing essential donations from a major local business.✅Housed eight families, supporting their transition from the shelter to independent housing. The transition had a two-year stipend with the opportunity to secure a Section 8 voucher upon successful completion of the program. I achieved this after being selected to administer the cohesion agency’s first rental assistance program with a $225K budget.✅As CMV ambassador, I covered 14 events in 12 months; spoke at two events at the 2015 Forum on Domestic Violence and Urban Edge and Up from the Underground Art Experience at the Brahmin Center.

Jul 2014 - Oct 2016

Front Door Homebase Case Manager

Boston, Massachusetts, United States

After the launch of a public and private housing ecosystem partnership, implemented with five agencies (MBP, Heading Home, HomeStart, ABCD, Inc., and DHCD), I was able to work with my team to achieve successful outcomes in the administration of the HomeBase Program at the Dudley Square BFH Office. Next, I was tapped by senior management to assist with motel relocations.Throughout this time, I managed a diverse caseload, including performing intakes and assessing Emergency Assistance applicants. This extended to guiding families through the application process, streamlining access to prevention, diversion, and relocation resources.✅Played a key role in placing 21 families sheltered in private motels supporting the initiatives strategic goals. ✅Forged relationships with landlords, real estate brokers, and property managers to broker rental leads and available units in Plymouth county for 19 out of 21 families in eight weeks.✅Rehoused families in an expeditious manner, saving the Department of Housing and Community Development thousands of dollars in motel contract expenses before a motel closure deadline.
