Enabled $45.4 billion in new revenue for Microsoft Cloud by overcoming drought conditions and bringing South Africa datacenter online and off grid for water. I am passionate about delivering measurable results for the environment and leveraging corporate resources to achieve a positive impact across a variety of industries, including chemicals, energy, tech, water, and wastewater. Establishing baselines for new data centers and retrofits, patenting a data center core, shell, and airflow design that improves heat transfer and reduces energy consumption ("Data Center Core and Shell Design and Airflow Design” U.S. Patent 10,757,840) with a certification in HVAC is all in a day's work. One of my proudest career moments happened when Microsoft had to bring a new data center online in South Africa to launch Africa Hyperscale in 2019. It would be its first data center on the continent. Data centers require a lot of water and since it was poised to be launched during a 3-year drought, a solution had to be found. When I was hired in 2017, the severity of the drought caused South African officials to declare a “Day Zero” or the day that they would turn off the taps. Leading up to that time, I built a 30-member engineering team that spanned 4 continents to take the data center off grid and bring it online without using precious drinking water or missing the deadline to deliver to customers their cloud services. I hired a startup owned by three young women to deliver the solution. They have since gone on to win multiple awards and list some of the largest companies in the world as their clients. All of the excess water we generated on site was delivered to orphanages throughout the Western Cape together with Gift of the Givers (Badr).Simultaneously while building this engineering solution, I coordinated and funded a water-saving project across 52 hospitals in the Western Cape to install smart water meters so they would save drinking water in the event of another drought. As a result of our work, we created over 170,000 direct and indirect jobs. I am proud of the round-the-clock work that I did to pull multiple teams together to deliver a solution for not only a corporation but a nation.
