Profile bio

About Prithviraj Vasanth

I currently work as a Software Engineer on the Platform Encryption and Keys team at Salesforce. I develop software for the services that serve, among others, Salesforce’s Shield/ Platform Encryption features. I also contribute to the service ownership efforts in the team -- pre-rollout test/monitor tools, Metric based alert setup, and I like to document any new learnings. I joined the team in June, 2017 and before that worked in the Core Service Protection team at Salesforce for 3 Years. At the time of leaving the Service Protection team I lead the UI development efforts for our team and was immersed in the design and development for the Console used by our Site Reliability(SR) engineers. I coded in Java, Javascript ,GWT, GWTBootstrap, GwtHighcharts, and also developed a comfort with Git. I constantly looked for ways to design with a functional yet usage/user aware UX that valued time, accuracy and simplicity of usage— all catering specifically to the time critical needs of an SR engineer. Developing a reliable/responsive console, given the challenges of a distributed system was fun and I am proud of what I could contribute in the 2 years on the project. Prior working on this, I designed and developed Test Automation code for some of our team’s features.I graduated from the Masters Program in Computer Engineering at UC Irvine in 2014 and have since been passionate about Information Retrieval, Machine Learning, Data Science, Distributed Systems, Data Analysis and Visualisation.Prior my Masters I was a full time Software Quality Engineer at Cisco, India, At Cisco I worked on Multicast features on its flagship ASR 9000 series routers. I have a Bachelors in Electronics & Instrumentation, from BITS Pilani, K.K Birla Goa Campus, India. When I’m not in front of a computer I love clicking pictures, dancing, solving crosswords, cooking, playing ultimate frisbee, Basketball, Futsal, reading or walking around the city.

Listed skills include Java, Distributed Systems, Html, Gwt, and 21 others.

As a Member of Technical Staff in the Service Protection Team, I have been contributing towards developing new features for the service protection console the Site Reliability Engineers use on a day-to-day basis to view/infer and mitigate any threats to the service. I am the primary point of contact for the UI on the team and it is being developed using Java, HTML, CSS, Javascript with the powerful GWT & GWTBootstrap3 frameworks. Our ui code is maintained on private git repo and a local jenkins is setup to continuously poll and validate the latest checkins into git with functional tests & unit tests.I enjoy designing and developing features for the UI with a focus on providing a reliable and user friendly interface for the time-strapped Site Reliability Engineer to effectively learn about and mitigate risks in a timely manner. I participate in regular design reviews, code reviews, functional and unit test automation and continuously keep myself updated on trainings needed for day-to-day work and also future work.

Amts, Software Quality Engineer

San Francisco, California, Us

I am an AMTS, Software Quality Engineer in the Core Service Protection Team at Salesforce- part of the Database and Core Cloud. The team I work with is exemplary and I am gaining experience on the Systems/Core side of our End to end App Delivery pipeline. I am slowly building my knowledge of Systems level challenges, testing approaches and coming up with effective Test Plans/Test Automation(in Java) that further ensure the quality of our team's product and therefore the quality of Service Protection provided to Salesforce's many customers. I have come to appreciate the scale of the PaaS service provided by Salesforce and its multitenant architecture now even more so because of our team's work. It is amazing to identify Service impactors and understand the problem(s) at its roots and be part of the team that evolves a solution after having understood the architecture/infrastructure well to help mitigate further such bad actors. I am loving it here and looking to get myself further soaked in my work and the Salesforce culture. Aloha! to the everything ahead in Salesforce!:)

Software Quality Engineer Summer Intern

San Francisco, California, Us

I will be working with the Core Service Protection Group this summer at Salesforce.com's HQ.As part of my Summer Internship, I worked on the Core Service Protection Team on building an intuitive User Interface/Dashboard for one of the back-end analysis tools. I was involved in driving the design and flow of usage and explored a set of JS libraries before I readied the prototype UI for an internal POC for the backend analysis tool. Highcharts.js, bootstrap.js, d3, nvd3, timeline.js, Java, JDBC were some of the stuff explored during the internship. I worked closely with developers on also understanding many of the fundamentals of the Distributed Infrastructure and deployment architecture of Salesforce.com. It was an eye-opening experience that got me excited about the many things I learnt and what it helped me realize as future learnings. I was selected for full-time position at the end of my internship.

Software Engineer Ii

San Jose, Ca, Us

I work as a Development Test Engineer for the ASR9000 Edge and Aggregation router platform.I primarily work in the Multicast area -- L2 and L3-- with experience in QoS too.Work on Platform specific testing mainly. This involves Understanding the dynamics of our next generation modular Network OS, IOS-XR.Understanding the technology areas that need to be tested first. Then, its implementation on the ASR9000 router, the limitations and a good knowledge of the customer use cases and requirements.Planning the strategy for testing with frugal use of resources. Reviewing the test plan with senior test engineers, developers and colleagues, ensuring the test plan has good and solid coverage.Once into the Test cycle, a good eye for detail will help route the elusive bugs and consequently diligence in determining the root cause is a very critical aspect of this role.Building a rapport with the Developer team and effectively communicating suggestions, bugs and requirements are essential for a successful project. On the sides, an important and crucial responsibility of every DevTest Engineer is to automate the feature as it is being tested. This reduces the effort while performing a sanity check on any latest image. At the end, of course, the script will need to be made efficient and prim, ready to be integrated into the Regression team's topology for regular runs.Once the defects in a release are filed, fixed and verified it is the duty of the engineer to track the health of the feature in the next/higher phase of testing called the 'System Integration Testing'(SIT). The number of SIT found bugs must be close to 0 and Customer found an absolute 0, with exceptions that are well justified. After a release cycle it is the duty of the engineer at each level of testing to record his learnings, defects, and tips and caveats in a common/shared page or twiki that may come in handy later for when an enhancement needs to tested or just for general reference.

College Intern

Chicago, Illinois, Us

As an Intern in the CDMA department, I got to work alongside a senior developer on the WiMAX System Test Loader module of the product Motorola was developing. I got to hone my C programming skills while working on code snippets and enhancements. At the Motorola Library, I got to peruse a number of books on the 802.11x Wireless Networking Standards.A good understanding of the standards and the product I was working on I was able to make an impressive presentation to the team summarising my contribution in the larger context of the Technology area.I worked under the manager, Mrs. Susila Cherla during my time as a College Intern.
